As I've mentioned we are in a "bubble" with my youngest boy's family for the purpose of childcare. Today my daughter in law had an emergency dental appointment and the dentist is just up the road from our house so she asked us to keep the wee one whilst she attended the dentist.
Her appointment was for 10.30am and she turned up just before 10 to allow time for settling the wee lad with us and walking up the road to the dental surgery - no parking available.
Handing the youngster to me on the front doorstep she mentioned she thought there was an "electrical burning smell" in the car and handed me the keys too. Glancing over at the car I could see a wee wisp of smoke curling up from the O/S/F wheel arch. Ten minutes later with one of my wee jacks under the O/S sill I knew the caliper wasn't freeing off - new caliper needed!
Darn it, Mrs J has a bad back and can't really cope with a youngster who needs a lot of lifting and carrying and anyway, it's damned cold out today, so I rang Steven down at Bonnington Mill Garage:
https://www.bonningtonmillgarage.com/ who have helped me before and described the problem and the fact she needed to be home, about 20 miles away to the south of the city, by 3pm to pick up the wee lad's sister from school. Could they help out? Shouldn't be a problem Jock, bring it round right now.
When I got to the garage they were about to depart on a home breakdown call out but they checked the Jazz out and confirmed my diagnosis ordering the new caliper from the factor. "It'll be here by the time we get back" said he. I had a chilly 20 minute walk home and a lovely few hours rolling around on the floor with the wee lad.
1.30pm the phone rang "Car's ready, come and get it" Legged it to the garage to be told "just take it away, haven't had time to price the job yet, give me a ring tomorrow and I'll let you know what you owe". This is now the second time these two guys have helped out at extremely short notice and I'm incredibly impressed by them which is why I've posted the link for you above.
By the way, although specializing in Honda stuff (they are both ex main dealer techs) they will take on most other makes too which is worth knowing if you are local to the Leith area of Edinburgh
