Presumably the same people who run low in ICE vehicles will be those who repeat the exercise with EVs.:ROFLMAO:
Not so easy to do on an EV, most give warnings, then start shutting systems down, limiting speed to maximise range and get you to a charge point.

I like buying new parts for cars, but was a bit much yesterday, 4 tyres, at £190 each 😢
Thats no Panda!! You bought the wrong car!
Two tyres for Daffo with a free track check thrown in - £190. Thats top brand too. Its surely enough though.
Then of course I decided to give it new drop links as its just started rattling £16 the pair, so I had to bolster my order and added 8 spark plugs and two oil filters from S4P. Delivery tomorrow with luck. Forum code saved me about £7 so I shall buy mars bars for Christmas.

A V8 Panda?

Most of the cars I bought in the last fifty years cost less than the price of one of your tyres;).
Mind you, not likely to impress dropping any one off at the Hilton Hotel:).
I seem to recall buying an old Series 2 Land Rover, all road legal for £150 around the time a friend bought a brand new Mitsubishi Shogun with full Diamond Pack extras for around £17,700 and pointing out to him that mine did everything his did except pose!

The joy of modern cars...I'll assume low profile wide, minimum of 19 in diameter which is when things start to get ridiculous.

I'd have loved to have seen the series 2 do 4 hours on the motorway at 70 mph...

I doubt if it would have reached 70mph if I dropped it off a cliff due to it's aero dynamics;). By the way I had a Fiat 500 that flat out on a run to Birmingham only reached 55mph although did return 55mpg on same strip fully loaded for a canal barge holiday that was around late 70s and from memory paid £60 for taxed and Moted although did have to fit a clutch and sort push rod tube seals.
As standard petrol versions according to a sales brochure returned 12-15 mpg, I converted it to diesel using a Ford York 2.4litre? engine which everyone said was a cr*p engine, but after I timed the injector pump using the spill port method and my children's plastic protractor it returned 30mpg which was better than the same brochure listing of 20-25mpg for standard diesel version, so I was happy although top speed then was 65mph approx. but it towed well for my business. Always parked on the road unlocked, no theft issues.;)

Yeah, 19" wheels, I'd been seriously thinking about getting a set of 18" wheels, but by the time I get decent wheels, then 4 tyres that'll be more money than the 19" tyres. And I'm not sure how much longer the car will go for to justify the long term saving.

Plus the 19" wheels are wide and lower offset, so make the car much more pleasing to look at than the normal DS4 with the wheels too far in.

Thinking about it now, the 4 tyres for the 500 were £105 each a few years ago....
Different sizes to a 500...hence the better ride, 🙂
But I bought 4 panda tyres for that kind of money.. £120 a corner if you don't shop around

Now looking for the 500..wondering if "summer tyres" are cheaper at Xmas.. They are not 😉

Doblo insurance expires 4th Jan.
Renewal quote arrived just yesterday, short notice, especially with Christmas in between.
Last year, £355, this year, quote £540. Ouch. No claims on other two vehicles won't transfer, so only 1 year on this.
Spoke to insurer of Panda, slightly better, at £514.
Meerkats to the rescue. Started at £252 with MOJA. Who? Apparently part of AXA, so not as worrying as first thought.
Aviva (now there's a big company, not known for competitive quotes, but have used them in the past, without trauma.) £308. Seems like a good idea. Done.

Next scare will be the Fabia. Email apparently due out today.

If you've got time on the Fabia it may be worth hanging on a bit.

Was in a meeting the other day...one of the things was after months of prices rises in insurance the market is starting to head the other way.

When I got quotes for my Mondeo earlier in the year they were all coming in at about 30% higher than last year.
The renewal notice only arrived about 10 days before the expiry, and I had forgotten to get quotes early.
As I only use it occasionally anyway, I got quotes for 1 month ahead, which were cheaper than last year, so I SORNed it for a month...
Apparently 24 days in advance is the "sweet spot" for insurance renewal prices.
Maybe thats why renewal latters seem to be getting later?

Nice idea... But when is anything cheaper,
At least my local man fitted the spare Conti i took off a year ago to daughters car for nothing. I did give him soemthing for a drink. The rears are reasonably matching in terms of wear. I will have a new wheel and another new Conti on the daughters car next week so she has a matching spare. Predictably the tyre that was punctured was beyond salvage. There are still some people who will provide a bit of extra service. Getting the car fixed up so she can go to work tonight is a good result at this time of year. My thanks to 'Tyres R' Us in Dereham.

Due 17th Jan. Its the school car, so specialist insurance. Previously around the £400 mark. Fully comp, any driver, and driving other vehicles when training.
Seen as a low risk, but strangely, does not necessarily transfer to other vehicles in fleet.
When I first got the Panda, (2010), the initial quotes were silly. Could haev insured that as a school car much cheaper. Took a bit of negotiation to get a proper price.

I questioned the short notice when I cancelled the renewal for the Doblo, they said usual notice was 10 days. Computer does not adjust for Christmas. I thought there was either legislation, or at least code of practice guidelines for 30 days renewal notice. Apparently, that may be home insurance only. Can't find evidence.

On this side of the pond the insurance companies start pestering, they call it an early reminder, for payment about 90 days before it's due.
