Oh fudge...seem to have passed telephone interview and been asked for a face to face.

This is feeling a bit more real..

If that goes well it's pretty much a choice between family time and career unless there's homeworking/hybrid options they've not mentioned. But the reality of that would be if someone I didn't know from Adam turned up and asked for something that wasn't in the spec I'd not be particularly likely to give it.
If you do get a job offer, is there the possibility the offer could be used to get better remuneration from your current job ? Getting the best of both ? Don't know your job, so don't know if this is realistic.

She could leave NHS employment and get a great deal more pay quite easily
Or she could leave the NHS do the same work for a great deal more money joining the bank nurses - and none of the responsibilty!!

I couldn't work like that, having temp people brought in below me getting significantly more money. Luckily, as an engineer, I dont need to care for people.

I suppose there is, or would have been.

While the money would in theory have been nice, once you take out buying/running a second car again in the current climate and the additional 2 hours a day unpaid the commute adds and the additional contract time, paying for parking and losing time with my family it's not a huge difference.

Having thought over night, knocked it on the head..will keep looking but when I told my wife where it was her first response was "hmm we get a lot of stabbings in the pub opposite" always nice.

That's a strange thing to say? Or maybe it just didn't come across to me in the way you intended?
Nah, only electrical and mechanical things get loving care. I have infinite amount of patience when working on things, whereas most people (almost all) I have no patience for.
Apparantly "get over it" isn't seen as the best way to deal with all the mental issues that plague the country.

Hmm. An interesting attitude towards life. How has it worked out for you so far?

I think I interpreted it the same way as you. From other posts, I'm sticking with my initial impression.

There's a possibility that for some people, it could make them bitter and argumentative.

Im bitter and argumentative. it doest seem to get me more fudge to sweeten me up.... but here's hoping. fudge is also very good for mental health and general health and its sure helps end of life if you can get enough. Trouble is you really need the hand made stuff and its expesive and costly to transport....

Thats why Im bitter. Not enough fudge.

Oh yes Fudge. Sister in law lives up in the hills behind Barnstaple in Devon and we go to this shop: https://rolysfudge.co.uk/stores/rolys-fudge-barnstaple/ when we are visiting. Just can't buy enough of the stuff. Must admit to a liking for Scottish Tablet too! https://scottishscran.com/traditional-scottish-tablet-recipe/. The down side is many of my teeth are now mounted on a plate!
As children we used to make toffee at home and ruin mums saucepans and then as now I crunch up hard sweets and still have most of my own teeth, unlike my two sister who made the sweets last and both have had many dental visits for treatment. I used to love Nuttalls Mintoes" in half pound bags;)
Contrary to dental advice received I don't floss, but brush using a hard toothbrush three times a day vigorously to the point they only last 4/5 days before the bristles are badly bent and thrown out.
Given how hard it is to stay registered with NHS dentists down here, as they are all closing I will have to see if my teeth or the rest of me packs up first:)

I had to laugh today. I was sorting stuff to chuck out after my mums departure in 2018. I found a pile of life assurance policies for her and her mother and my aunts. Nan, Mum and the eldest Aunt have all gone now. I Noticed that on my mothers life the policy seemed to be still alive into the 1990s so alm ost certainly still live when she dies. and we never claimed on her death. Having a closer look my nan and her eldest child were on the first policy and my aunt had been added in 1919. The policy was paid each week for 72 years! Wow a life insurance for funeral costs...
I reckon there were some 3744weeks of life. The I noticed the payment 1d a week rough calculations show this would have cost £15,60 in total! The payout? £18.60! Mum spend more than that on the drinks at her wake,

Mothers policy must be worth at least as much! What is the betting we have left it too long after death to claim. Well we shall claim anyway just to be awkward. Her younger sister has a policy still live but with truncated benefits. Wow. I shall have to pass that on just in case.. May be it has a cash value!
If ever there was evidence that insurance is a great big con I think this is it. Another fairly useless financial product sold to the unsuspecting.

My son who is a fInancial manager in New York informed me the UK government had to buy back some 31 year gilts this week to stop Legal and Genral prinarily, and many other UK pension funds failing completley due to this government mismanagment of the economy and the damning affects, as well as questionable investment strategies of funds.... As L&G lost 25% of my pension fund through what appears to be parlous bad management of the Lifestyle Fund I was in (it fell every week since January) it now appears the reason they stayed invested where they were was insufficient value in the investment to be able to move it elsewhere? I no longer have any funds with them and nor does my Mrs. All transferred elsewhere. I intend to withdraw all my pension funds asap and dig a hole in the garden and bury them! It will be more secure. So much for my life long saving for retirement. I wish I had spent the whole B lot on fudge got fat and died at 50. It at least would have been fun

On the up side I found I have US currency from my last trip to the USA, and its gone up by 25% in value. Unfortuately its only 1/25,000 of the sum lost.
Moral of the story.
1. Watch your pension funds like a hawk
2. Spend the whole lot straight away!
3. Dont trust insurance companies they seem to be about as straight as a banana.

Oh yes. I posted some time ago about our experience with them when our wee postage stamp of a conservatory suffered damage to it's roof when the double glazing people managed to drop a brick through it's roof while replacing the spare bedroom window. Their (the double glazing workers) immediate reaction to this was "nothing to do with us, that hole was there before we started" Even when I produced the piece of brick from the conservatory floor they continued to deny liability and went home at the end of that day without agreeing to repair it. They did fill the hole with silicon sealant to stop the rain getting in though!

Mrs J was in a right old state about it so I rang our house insurance the next day just to inquire whether we were covered for the repair if I couldn't get the contractor to cover it. A very pleasant person reassure us we were covered and just to give them a ring if we needed to go further with it. The next day the double glazers returned with their boss (they were doing all our windows so it was a 2 day install) who examined the damage and immediately reassured us they would repair it. In fact they did a very good repair entirely replacing the roof panel and a couple of seals which were damaged due to removal of the old panel - everything as good as new - he was also very pleasant and apologetic for the damage saying the chap who had dropped the brick was in fact still under training. They did a lovely job of the installation even sorting some slight damage to plasterwork round the new windows.

So next day I rang the insurance just to tie up any loose ends by informing them that we would not be making a claim and thanking them for their reassurance when I'd first rung. Thought that was the end of it, silly me. When our next renewal came in, months later, it had gone up by quite a large amount so I rang them to inquire why and was told it was due to the damage to the conservatory roof. But I made no claim, said I, so why the increase? It's because you made that inquiry which shows you would consider claiming. I rang several other providers but it seems there's mention of this on their database now so it's affecting all quotes. Looks like it's going to be some years before this blot on our record goes away. So no, Insurance companies are not your friends. Tell them nothing unless you are definitely going to have to make a claim.

The Fabia has had an irritating knock on the front nearside for some time. It passed an MOT, at a garage that is known to be thorough. Nothing found at teh service, and I had asked that they have a look. Not a consistent knock, and not an 'imminent failure' type of noise.
So yesterday, under it I went. Every ball joint and suspension mounting looks good, no discernible play. Brake caliper is secure, as are the pads. Noise is similar to the anti-roll bar links, so these are the prime suspect. Removed one, joints have no slack, although do move quite easily. So I've replaced them both, cheap and easy. So we'll see over the next few days if the noise has gone. If not, I'm thinking the top mountings, as they can also hide well.

Updates, from a ditch, soon.

PS: I've had a stray screw for some time. Found on the drive, couldn't find its home. Yesterday, there was its home staring at me, so it is now helping hold the wheelarch liner in, as its destiny.

Feel like this car is following the same trajectory as my own...just a few months after.

On that note our top mounts went 3 months ago. It was causing a knock but the main symptom was the sound of a spring winding and unwinding due to it not rotating cleanly so the spring was moving in the cup.

Started off as what sounded like a stone getting stuck under a tyre while turning then fired out but eventually was a proper twang like a spring snapped occasionally.

Thanks for that. I've no such 'twang', just the light knock, and inconsistent, so hopefully the links will have sorted it. I'll find out tomorrow, no reason to use it today. It is the 'working' car, and I prefer to use the Panda otherwise.
In the summer, the anti-roll bar bushes occasionally creak. I've squirted them with silicone grease, but that might struggle to get in. Might have to release the mounts to grease them properly.

Well, two journeys of about 40 miles each way, and all is quiet.
As with all noise repairs, afterwards the ears become more critical. The nearside dash vent now rattles a little.
