What's made you grumpy today?

What's made me grumpy today? Well, just been away on our holidays - 7 days around the northern Croatian Islands on a wee cruise ship - and had a really lovely time. Unfortunately started feeling unwell about half way through it but just thought I had a cold, Runny nose and occasional sneezing, didn't greatly interfere with the enjoyment of the holiday. Had a terrible journey back with long delay to the flight caused by the runway problems at Edinburgh airport, eventually getting back home at 3.00 am on the Monday morning. Straight to bed and woke up mid morning feeling pretty grim. Mrs J said "I wonder"? and looked out one of the Covid test kits we've still got. Damn it, I'm Covid positive!

I've notified NHS Scotland and the tour company (airline/cruise company) and been on the NHS Scotland website which advises: "If you have a positive coronavirus test result, try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days after the day you took your test, or from the day your symptoms started (whichever was earlier). You should count the day after you took the test as day 1"

Think I've covered all the bases? I'm already feeling quite a lot better but am very dizzy with a bit of a head ache still. Decided I'm going to continue to isolate and avoid people, like neighbours who are all keen to hear about our holiday, until at least Sunday or longer if I don't feel a lot better.

Just to make you all jealous? and trying to cheer myself up, here's a picture of the boat:

Oh, I'm feeling better already!
I thought you were quiet due to the hols and very glad your recovered/ing. What a shame that must have taken the shine off what should have been outstanding.

Thanks for your support. Luckily the full symptoms didn't really hit until last Monday morning - probably due to us being so tired from the marathon which was Sunday. Until then I only felt as if I had a bad cold so it didn't curtail my enjoyment all that much. We had to leave the ship by 9.00 am on the Sunday so we were up at 6.00 am to finish packing overnight stuff, have breakfast, present baggage for transport and be off the ship for 9.00 am. Luckily they looked after all the bags until 4.00 pm when they picked us up for transfer to the airport. They dropped us in Trogir for the day: https://www.visit-croatia.co.uk/croatia-destinations/north-dalmatia/trogir/ so we had a lovely day's sightseeing and didn't learn about the runway problems at Edinburgh until we reached check in. By the time we got home at 3.00am on Monday morning we were exhausted and I think it was probably this tiredness which clobbered my defenses and let the Covid get a good hold. Having said that though it wasn't any worse than a dose of "proper" flue and I'm almost back to normal now although still feeling very dizzy.

My poor dog is ill. I thought he had swallowed something so a vets visit was needed, now £1500 lighter and praying the insurance covers it. But hes no better tonight although currently sleeping quietly. I think its an allergic reaction and inflamed stomach. Im about to put some cushions out so I can sleep next to him. Its far worse than being ill myself. Makes you realise what matters! Crowning glory was a blasted muntjack ran out in front of the car when returning from the vets this morning. Thank god Panda brakes are good, we were virtually stopped when we collided. It appeared un bowed and the car was also OK too, Just as well as its only just been repaired after hitting junk that fell off a lorry. I need a break from this mega spending thats 10% of the years income gone in two hits. But fear not!!! The government has only put car tax up 16% to help keep inflation in check!

I may have mentioned before that my mum was a founder member of the Dog Aid Society. She was a real country girl - Hunting/shooting/fishing crowd and loved the countryside. There were always animals around, two or three dogs, sometimes more, but never cats. Then there were the horses, ducks, geese and orphan animals, mostly lambs, from the farm next door. Our house was old with flagstone floors and I remember the lambs especially wandering around the large kitchen - where we spent most of our time - and in and out the always open back door. Many were still being bottle fed. Looking back on it I think it was a lovely way to be brought up and I remember it with very much rose tinted glasses. It was always very upsetting when one got ill or died and I can remember my mum, on occasion, sitting up late at night in the armchair in the kitchen, comforting a sick animal. It's a lovely and comforting image to have in mind.

Unfortunately Mrs J has serious trouble with asthma and other breathing difficulties which is often set off in the presence of animals, cats in particular although moulting dogs give her big problems too. The only one she can live with is my daughter's Labradoodle which has a coat much more like a sheep. Consequently we've never had a family pet and I do miss it sometimes but don't miss the heartache they can cause.

Well, that's not the english national anthem, and the scottish fans were just telling the UK government what we think of them.

You cant really enslave a nation for 400 years of inequality and expect love from them, stockholm syndrome doesn't work up here :D :D :D
I hope not enslaved and I hope we actually are stornger together. If your just telling UK govt thats fine. I wish I could tell them too, contemptuous bunch of cheating lying **********!!! Trouble is if you have your own government it wont be long before you too have a Ceausescu's palace of your own. You can watch them having lockdown parties Scotts style. The upside is after another revolution, Top Gear will be able to have another episode filmed in the underground tunnels of Edinburgh. That will be a good watch.

I think that for all of us who were/are not nationalist fanatics it was Nicola and her charismatic nature which held our attention. Now she's gone I think there's not such a likelyhood of us breaking away. Is that a good thing? I'm undecided. I've plenty of English friends and I don't have any personal animosity towards the English in general, Politicians however are different creatures altogether and they don't seem to breed them any better up here than anywhere else!

Its a shame she fell along the way as there seemed to be a politician with some bottle and so much less bull**** than all the others. Mrs Thatcher was another who started well intentioned but it seems once in office either the situation or just power leads to some form of corruption of the ideals. Thatcher really lost it after a while and resemebled me ranting after one too many beers and running right off the rails.
Personally I see myself as British, a UK and NI citizen. However we became one country and however repressive that was many years back we have been a stable unit for many years and faced many tribulations together. I hope we remain together and appreciate the differnces that are part of our great country(ies).

TBH, I was impressed by Nicola, she did seem sincere and from a genuine working class background, pity it all went bad in the end.

The tories (David Cameron) coming to scotland with promises then doing a u-turn on the day after the scottish referendum was the giving up point with westminster for me, how was I to know it would become the comedy it was in the last few years.

Ever looked at the lion and unicorn on coin, flags, etc, who wears a crown and who is shackled?

One difference that always makes me smile is you can drive around with SNP on your car with no issues in scotland, try that with a BNP sticker on you car in britain,

Im still mad about brexit. Cameton had a duty to seewere reasonably informed about pros and cons. He could and should have made sure independant experts formulated and presented FACTS. result, the liars took over. I accept we are where we are but in my view his omissions amount to treason and Id have him beheadedin the tower of London. HPpy for it to be Edinburgh castle though. Idont blame you one bit for your views. I hope however that we stay together. Separation would probebly suit the mindless tories. They cant even see through johnson truss or sunak...... None of whom are as inspiring as a mouldy turd.

Anyone old enough to remember running a small business when the ERM Fiasco took hold early 1990s, mortgages interest rates through the roof, homes being repossessed, businesses closing etc. I lost 3/4 of my customer base, whilst paying a mortgage at 16% and feeding wife and five children.
So for me you can shove the E.U. where the sun don't shine, though I have nothing against the people of those Countries and enjoyed visiting.

I'm a "simpleton" when it comes to politics and I've never run my own business but I have worked for both big and small concerns. So regarding the impact of Brexit I feel we were foolish to have "throw the baby out with the bathwater". My opinion is that it's better to be part of something like this, which has so much power and influence, working away from within to change things you don't like than to be completely excluded with little influence.

We have a problem with our voting system which has been very obvious over recent times. A majority result where the majority is as slim as it has been on several occasions - as it was with brexit - leaves you with a big problem in that almost half of the result was actually for staying in. Of course we are out and the best thing we can all do is to accept this and just get on with making things work as well as possible, it's pointless to keep wishing we could go back, but I do wish the poleticians and others who strongly support brexit would stop talking about the "overwhelming majority" in favour of brexit - it wasn't overwhelming, it only just trickled past the post with, I suspect, a lot of vested interests bending, embellishing and withholding information - remember the £350 million NHS bus for instance?

Up until that ERM issue I had no interest in politics, but as it directly affected me and the many small businesses who had been my customers at the time, that quickly changed.
The original "Common Market" few people objected to, but once it became "Federal" the heavy hands of the bureaucrats both sides of the Chanel had a more negative affect in my opinion.
Re the £350 million NHS bit, there was questionable statements on both sides of the argument and I suspect made little difference to the outcome, which I agree was close. :)
As it is now we have the worst of both Worlds due to questionable motives by those involved with negotiating the terms of withdrawal in my opinion.

Yes I remember that day, but just as much for the tories throwing most of the nations wealth at propping uupo the pound when the speculators were intent of=n making money out of this. Anyone would have thought they were keen on giving £40billion to the rich in one afternoon. If the EEC had stayed as it was when we entered, a trading group with some fringe benefits it would have been fine. I was never into a Federal Europe and becoming a substate ofr Brussels. We were so weak we let this happen while paying alions share of the running costs which is unforgivable. He who pays the piper should have been calling the tune. As to the levels of corruption and waste and the cost of the EU commission lunches which run at 10s of lillions a go words fail me. So while I was in favour of staying totally get your views. Im sure once the dust settles completely we will be fine, they need us as much as we need them. It does make me wonder, with the anti British sentiment why we bothered to support the French in particular when the Germans decided they owned France 85 years ago. I wouldnt trust the europeans to come to our aid if it was ever required, quite the opposite in fact. That I suppose says quite a lot. Its another reason why UK needs to stay together. We KNOW the home nations would help and it proves blood is thicker than water.

Yep governments are all the same, and people the world over too. Ordinary folk sharing the same needs and aspirations mostly decent and straight forward.

I rather think that the SNP is rather less xenophobic than the BNP by about 70yrs and a whole lot less goosestepping 😉
