M1 North - 2 long sets of roadworks & 50mph average speed cams on both. Both had the hard shoulder coned off & not one person working.
Southbound, exactly the same scenario!
What is the point of coning off mile upon mile of motorway with nobody actually working on it?

Tripping south on the M23 a few months back, there were several miles of lane 3 closed on both carriageways. Regular 'travel' bulletins kept describing 'road works'. So I phoned the number and said it was a 'a lane closure', NOT 'road works', as there was no work happening. This was a Friday mid morning. No evidence of work having been done, or any equipment ready to start any.
Amazingly, the bulletins for the rest of the day just described 'lane closures'. Result.

Weird wheel nuts on my FTO. They're 17mm but look like CR-V ones. As you'd expect my three 17mm CR-V sockets are long missing. Borrowed by nephews and lost forever. Grrrrr! :bang:

Am I the only one that gets a red mist come down when dealing with insurance companies?

I just bought a new car. My husband has always insured it on his no claims but with me a main driver/owner. That is how we've always had it and its an issue that bugs me because insurance companies never accept I'm increasing HIS no claims but put me to the bottom of the pile if I try to get my own, which makes it totally not cost effective.

This time even he saw why I get annoyed.
His insurance company couldn't find my new car on 'The System' and said to call back the following week (when we were collecting the car from the dealer).
The dealer gave us the information we needed but still on the day of picking the car up it was spoiled by still having no insurance!

So we went to on that internet compare site and found another company to insure the car....who were under written by the very company we are already with!!

This week hubby got a call from the original insurance company now my car was 'on the system' and quoted £150 more! Are they in trouble now, he is not happy

Trying to arrange insurance is the bane of my life.

I chose one, checked if I could add alloy wheels and lower the car, they said yes. Went to get a full quote, informed them of this. They said if I lowered the car they would just instantly void my insurance.

I had a company phone me without me knowing (put my info into a comparison tool - they phoned within five minutes). They offered me a "good price" - £1200, £900 more than all the other companies without any other extras.

I feel like they just pull numbers out of their.. well.

You are in the group along with my son. He lowered his car, adds alloys, raises his car, changes the alloys. Since he has owned his car it has been lowered to as far as it can go and back up again several times, a different front and head light, an American boot lid and skirting. The insurance company he is with specialise in custom builds. His motorbike insurance is really good too allowing 3 bikes on one insurance and even agreed to let his dear old mum ride his Triumph Speed Triple (to my surprise) but not his touring bike for some reason which is only 600cc.

Which is another thing, both hubby and son get discount on their bike insurance as car owners but not the other way around! My bike insurance is even better (we girls are suppose to be safer bikers....yea right) but not even accepted to reduce my car insurance. I ride my bike to work more often now

remember the outside lane of the M62 been closed near us for about a year... due to subsidence .. they were monitoring it then overnight it re opened with them doing no remedial work whatsoever

That bloody Citroen...swear to god hope they sort the company car tax system so it doesn't penalise you 600 quid a year for driving an equivalent petrol. Hope sincerely it'll be the 1st and last diesel I have the misfortune to have.

Sticking on the diesel rant theme..couldn't agree with the graffiti on this car any more..

My new Beemer has DPF, 2 cats etc. I could get 10-15+ more average MPG by removing the DPF and 1 cat and getting a remap but I'm not.

I think it's a craze which needs to end for the good of all our healths. I honestly believe higher Co2 from modern petrols would be better than higher NoX and particulates and other cancer causing emissions from diesels, especially when so many people are removing the countermeasures!

Anyone looked at the horizon on a bright clear day and saw smog? I honestly can't remember that being there 10 years go...

I think it's about time petrol was given a tax break to encourage modern efficient petrol engines.

I'd settle for parity, petrol isn't exactly squeaky clean either. Just stop forcing those in company cars into diesel if they don't need it and maybe increase diesel duty so the tax per mile is equal (perhaps allow buses and road haulage reduced duty to stop there being an immediate rise in prices and make public transport cheaper). Oh and the police actually stopping cars like the Vectra above that are blatantly unroadworthy.

Ideally quick charging electric cars or alternative energy sources will become viable for more over the next 20 years (although how the already creaking UK power grid would cope with millions of additional electric cars is a matter for debate).

I didn't imagine that then.

It confused me when they suddenly reopened the lane with no sign of work been done
