General what have you done for her lately

Boasted to my neighbour welding up his MR2 that my teapot was going great. Hopped in, went 300 yards down the road, tried to change gear, the clutch wouldn't release and stuck fast. So stuck the slave cylinder exploded. Had to be pushed back home by MR2 man.

changed one of my exhaust gaskets today and had to refit my k&n after it fell off:eek:.
but tonight it has started playing up, it keeps missing and back fireing when cold. its got new spark plugs, new leads, new distributer cap and new rotery arm so im scratching my head on this one, think its started burning oil as well cause i've got to keep topping it up and there is no leaks:(

think i better get on with rebuilding the original engine and drop that back in quick time. any help with setting the timing belt on it would be great, and what am i best replacing with new when its in bits so i dont have to pull it apart again 6 months down the line?

Jonboy, just make a start with dismanteling the engine when your confident that you have the ability to rebuild it. Ill start scanning the tipo original fiat workshop manual tonight after work hours. Worst case i have some delta integrale manuals in pdf to make things work. Ill PB you an url when i'm done where you can down them, cam timing is to be found in those manuals.

that would be great(y)
i've made a start today and stripped it down and moved it to my mums garage so i can work on it, what a nightmare, had to do it on my own and i couldn't lift the main block on to the back of the pick up on my own so i had to take it to bits so i could manage it (backs in pain).

Well i don't know what the number is for but i'll check my engine later tonight, it might be common for the sedici. It looks like the both pistons which are at TDC are damaged and the other two look like they have seen some water. What milage does the engine have. (km's even easyer).

hey thats a mess.

Hope 2 things

1. You know which main bearing cap goes on which main and which way round.
2. Same as above regarding the big end caps.

What state are the valves in?

We'll new pistons for you -which you cant get any more, a few new valves. Did the belt slip, any missing teeth. Never been a better time to make a better engine or put a turbo unit in it!!

I know this might sound daft - but have you checked all the sensors on the engine in the car. The coolent temp sensor might be at fault and the cold start valve wmay also need a clean.

This will have zero effect on the oil consumption but may be the cause of the poor running.

Regarding the oil - has consumption just gone up? any smoke? Did this correspond with an oil change - in which case have you used the right quality oil?

Sorry if I am stating the obvious - but stranger things have happened. I had poor oil consumption and rough running on another Sedci I had with 150k+ on the clock. turned out to be a sticking valve - cured by flushing oil, running at 1500rpm for 25 mins and then refilling with good quality semi-synth. Engine ran great - but oil consumption was still high.

It should be possible to find and order pistons. Maybey they have to come from "shore" but it must be possible. Let me dig into it. I ordered a brand spanking new set of pistons for my 127 1050sport about half a year ago, and got them immediately, in third oversize (+0,60). So why should the sedici pistons be impossible to find ? Let me look into it.

The 1756 engine has the same size pistons but has a longer skirt on them 25mm in comperison to 15,7 mm in the sedici engine, all the rest is the same. So if the sedici pistons are impossible to find use those and skim the skirt (have it done). The engine is globally the same but the skirts on the sedici are shorter because of the bigger radius the cranck makes when rotating. Am i right here ?

Try to search for bore 84 make fiat and see if there is anything to your liking.

engine will be about 84000 miles, was missing teeth of timimg belt when i bought car so just ripped the engine out and dropped another in, its not run for about 2 and a half years. its been covered up but some water has got in, should of left the spark plugs in:bang:. dont think the pistons are to bad think they just need a good clean up and maybe some new rings, ill post a picture of them when i've rubbed them up.

oh and cheers arno got the emails, ill pinch some paper from work tomorrow and print them out, i had the manual for the delta on cd but lost it somewhere, it will probaly turn up when i finish rebuilding the engine lol.

or is there not supose to be the 2 groves in the piston head which look like they are there for the valves:confused:. someone was selling some pistons on ebay the other day, hope i've not missed out on them if mine are nackerd

Arno you are speaking to someone who knows, when I last went to get .4 oversize pistons there were none, infact I found there were none at all at any size. The 1800 unit have the valve reliefs of a different size. Good effort if you find some, but I have been there twice.
