Tuning turbo time!

Tuning turbo time!

wired the fan in today. decided not to use the ecu for control. not much point having to run wires and relays up for the ecu to do a simple task. so i bought a Temperature Activated Switch Kit from maplins for £6.

replaced the included sensor with a spare cento one.

can complain for £6 is would of cost me nearly that for a relay/wire/components to make the ecu do the same job.

is that for the intercooler fan? looks good :) but when are you going to get a alu bob made lol

yep intercooler fan. not sure how it needs to be set up yet. its mainly for auto test and stuff so i just set it so it dont come on during idle when fully up to temp. hopefully it wont come on while just driving... but obviously thats hard to tell so ill need to refit that led inside the car maybe... humm

got a stainless bob but its hard to find a 90degree silicon bend that goes from the size of the other piping to the size on the bob :(
going to wait till i go the exhaust place and get them to remake the whole boost pipe work to stainless :)

get me the size of what you need and ill get you a price ;) PSH in leicester make custom size silicon, i might even have one spare that might fit yours

bit of an update.

fitted a closed loop lambda.... ahhh silence :)

also solved a problem ive had since megasquirt was added.
the idle once warm has always been randomly "hunty". a few weeks ago after a blast at high boost and a smidge over 100 the car started to act up. when changing gear there was a couple of second delay before the car actually reacted to the throttle.

this stopped after a few mins and never got chance to find the problem.

well it happend again sunday after a sprint. this time it never stopped so when i got home i plugged in the laptop.

what i found was pressing the throttle never caused the map to read right away. instead the pressure slowly dropped.

after pulling a load of lines and blowing into them it seemed that the port on the intake manifold is somehow blocked. flows perfect going in but out is highly restricted like a one way valve.
I swapped the port for one on the tb and the cars idle instantly went much smoother and cars throttle response MUCH better.

sump guard fitted and looks alright. gonna see how long it lasts.

here is a video from sunday
under instruction so it is slow. sister missed my fast lap :(

Yea your second lap was much quicker! (y)

You seemed to be clearing those stupid little speed bumps on the way out ok with the sump guard! Well I didn't get showered in sparks anyway!! lol Shame my stupid JTD was scraping on the bloody things and its not even lowered (n)

Are you still going to put baffles in your sump? Because I noticed a few puffs of blue smoke under heavy braking up to some of the roundabouts. Definitely no smoking or funny smells on boost though :slayer:

Alan

yea, it was only when braking down for those roundabouts on the dual carriageways. Just a quick puff of smoke. Not a sausage when accelerating away from them though.

And even with your dodgy MAP readings and 2 second delay, I was having to really push my re-mapped JTD to keep up  lol

Alan

yea was defiantely blue. Smelt like burning oil too. Definitely ONLY under hard braking. Was no smoke when slowing down gradually, accelerating etc etc.

And erm yea erm... my floor mat was stuck under my accelerator pedal :p lol (NOT)

Blimey cant believe how much the bloke had it of me fooked it up, left me with a new oil cooler and properly plumbed in rad pipe, uprated punto front disks. used to stutter on boost but other than that was fine. The bloke spent 1800 on it from me then 2 grand, good lord, be interested to know how much you picked it up off ebay for.

confused now, the oni owned is in the classifieds for 200 sheets, with a different engine in, did you buy it with the turbo engine as well or just the engine or what????

which goes to show you just how much dosh and time it takes to get a turbo cento to run even half decent! So cost of car plus donor Turbo less resale of donor as std car plus megasquirt etc, etc. I don't know Craig's expendature so far and i don't want to even try to guess, but i suspect he will be in the usual area

the last owner never had it on the road yet spent almost a grand iirc on a new ecu, as the first one had burnt out due to horrific wiring! when i got it the new one had also failed due to the wiring.

when i got it i ripped all the dodgy wiring out and did a simple rewire and got it running again, I then stripped the engine and done a good bit of work before swapping it into mine.

good thing is, Ive not spent a penny on the turbo side of things so far (either its already been done or i do my own work) but yeh i have paper work for well over 2500grand. which is a stupid amount of money for such a car imho.
Got the car for 800iirc but have yet to sell the now standard car and all the other bits. so "should" be able to get a good bit of the 800back

yeh It still had them parts on it. Sadly as i said above i never seen the map on the ecu due to it been toast. runs like a champ with my tuning, the engine is set up nothing like it left you tho (y)
