Technical Tricky Problem

Over the last few months when starting my multi up, a strange almost like machine gun fire noise comes from the engine, however it goes quieter once the engine has run for a few mins, but if i pop on anything electric the noise comes back unless im revving?

Maybe its somthing to do with the alternator? hmmm

Anyone with similer problems? the car drives fine but the sound is driving me mental!

if its a loud banging noise [is it safe to drive? type noise] it COULD be the coosh drive in your crank pulley,that the alternator belt goes round.remove the alternator belt,start it up check noise still there,then remove the pulley,[ 4xallen type bolts] then start it up briefly.........

It was the crank pully, i didnt get it sorted in time, and on saturday night at 01:30 AM it went on me. Its getting a new one tomorrow.
