I don't really care who the Stig is but I suspect it's still Perry McCarthy based on what he says in his book "flat out flat broke" (which is a superb book I got for 99p signed on ebay and I recommend it). he does say that it was always him apart from once when they used Julian Bailey. It could be someone else now but I reckon it was just a stunt and it's still him.

Hi,

The Porsche challenge just reminded me of every time I go out in my mates TVR Tamora, normally something falls off or breaks. Difference is it is only 2 years old and cost £28K.

Sorry I should have said "was", he totalled it last week on the A27. It was damp and as he accelerated to overtake the back went out and he spun into another car and then down the embankment into a ditch. It is a write off but the main thing was that he survived as the TVR doesn't have Airbags etc. The biggest casualty were his pants.

I think that is a big difference between cars with traction control and stability control (like most hot hatches) compared to all out power like the TVR. If you make a mistake it is difficult to recover unless you have a lot of experience.

Anyway he's off to buy a diesel estate now.

I beleive that The Stig is a guy called Nicholas Minassian, as he was spotted at the "Ring" when they were filming for the episode with the Jag a few weeks ago.

Or it could be a guy called Ben Collins, but of course they may be sharing the drives!

Perry McCarthy (a failed F1 driver from the 80's) was the original Stig, but they "killed" him off after his identity was revealed.

Aaron.
Get this man a pint!

Been wondering and discussing the "stig's" identity for ages!

I'm going to look clever the next time the subject arises!
