This week at Aldi....

wonder if they'll start making cameras that store onto USB flash memory drives..
We bought an Olympus camera for work not long ago.. it ain't bad.

Sorry if people misunderstood me or I wasn't clear, I was trying to say that despite Olympus's good name they can make awful cams too!

No way, 256mb on USB 2 brand new! I love mine, first one was 32 mb current one is 128mb, I go to uni and just plug it in, no stupid floppies/cds in that I can use the USB memory stick "in progress" - no copying over is what I mean. If you use two different locations for PCs it's a god send :)

I use a portable HDD for anything bigger but it's too large to carry about. I would use MMCs (reader on laptop) but not much else has a built in reader.

OK and how much did a 256MB pen drive cost you. Then compare to a 650MB CDRW. I can appreciate that it's faster and more convenient, I just think the price difference justifies not using them. External HDD's are reasonable, but like you say a tad bulky to take everywhere, not to mention a lot more money to get damaged or stolen.

But the problem with CDs is that they aren't an alternative for me and many others, you haven't got the same upload/download constantl capability and even though not every PC i use has a CD-RW drive, it does have a USB slot.

Per MB at the time, my 128mb was £15 second hand on ebay, worth £35 new at the time, so yes, it's expensive but i have used it so much I have made my money back on it 100x over. I still use CDs and DVDs for certain things (i.e. if i am doing a presentation i know I won't need to edit) but say I have a bit of work I have been working on, coursework over 3 weeks, I would have 20 odd 20mb written CDs I would keep having to replace - I have never got along with CD-RWs and I doubt I could keep RWing between home and Uni.

I'll stop now lol. Just so you know, they have been one of the best inventions for me in years on the computer, RIP floppies.

OK, I can see the point when there are no burners in some of the PC's you use, I don't have that problem. I am constantly writing and rewriting CDRW's and DVD+RW's and CDRW's take no time now, plus if it's a small file that you keep editing you just add the file and the date in the name, then just re-format the disc when it's full, takes no time at all. I guess it's also what were used to. I used to have a zip drive, which I never used, cos I couldn't see the point, again because of media cost, they don't even have the convenience of USB functionality if it's an internal drive.

To be honest, in your situation, I'd probably end up taking my DVD+RW drive to Uni with me and chucking it in their PC's, but I guess that would be a pain, especially as it's IDE. Actually, I'd probably buy a cheap CDRW drive and leave it in a PC at Uni, if I could guarantee being able to get on that PC, which you probably can't.

I think we're all forgetting the MOST important aldi bargain: REMOTE CONTROLLED HOVERCRAFT... how cool is that!

That camera looks pretty good, comes with a lot of kit i.e. 2 batteries, car charger, case, 128mb card, not bad for 200 beans!
If I wasn't about to have a very very expensive few weeks (i.e. Crasher@Nottingham Ice arena, buying a Capri, and driving over 1000 miles to various places) then I'd probably buy the £30 24-volt cordless hammer drill.

I still do! I've got numerous ancient (i.e.early 90's) dance albums on tape, plus the original 2 Unlimited album

The only tape I have is an old Tom Petty album my dad lent me that I love and often listen to it.

Ebuyer dave :) Although I like LG monitors and support Aldi all the way, I believe you can get an LG for a few pounds less.
