I would necessarily call it a bodge.. some performance shock absorbers like bilsteins require regassing every so often

but if yours is a standard Fiat shock then it shouldnt need it... they are designed as a sealed unit, regassing them suggest that gas has leaked from them somewhere.. regassing would be a short term solution, best bet is to replace altogether..

can i also suggest replacing both fronts at the same time? both of yours have worn at a similar rate to each other, a new or salvaged unit might be worn more or not as much meaning one side will be spongier or harder...

yeah i was gonna do both anyway, on second thought i think he might of been planning to re gas the other side and replace the leaking one :chin:

There is always that... have a word with him.. get a quote from him then go to a scrapyard and get a quote for both shocks (y)

Would anyone be interested in a track day??

Planing on orgainsing one for my 21st Birthday at Rockingham Circuit... £125 for a full day.. 18th November...
or Silverstone Circuit at £230 for a full day...

I only see it as £28 per unit of S4P.. even then at £56 for the pair.. then he's charging near enough £200 for labour for a 2 maybe 3 hour job... so not bad i guess (y)

when you click on it, it adds vat

he said to me an hours labour  but thats probably not replacing the other side just re gassing it

i think his parts are more expensive as well

And thats probably not factoring in several years rust...

I'd say buy and do it yourself.. its a laugh and worthwhile learning experiance.. (or get help from dave....)

or if your not that confident give your car to him...

if you do, do it yourself, then remember it still needs to go to a garage to get tracking sorted.

if you can find a focus still open you might be able to get something as there all shutting down

Dont think there is one anywhere near me anymore, not even sure how many will still be open tbh. Ive found somewhere in wakefield which is like 40 mins away but not sure on prices yet. Might ring them tomorrow

i think im gonna give it a go myself *gulp*

iv sent dave a cheeky pm asking if he can give me a hand dunno when he is back though

thanks for the advice

Always figure it'll take longer than it looks. I helped my youngest replace the front shocks on his S reg fiesta.
despite having built up a load of tools over the years, I ended up having to buy Halfrauds pro socket set (lifetime warranty, you break it, we replace it provided you haven't abused it) as it was the only socket I could find where the handle works on the outside of the socket (as opposed to the normal 1/4" or 1/2" internal drive), so I could get a large TorX bit in to hold the centre of the shock whilst I undid the nylock nut.
With the wheel off and the car on axle stands, I used my trolley to compress the spring to facilitate removal of the nut.

I was actually amazed at how much force I could apply to the halfords socket - mole grips holding the torx bit in place I had a 3 ft scaffold pole slid over the handle of the socket to give extra leverage - and even then it only just moved

With regards the socket set, I gave it to him as a birthday present & figured he might also want to add it to his set at work - but he's too embarrassed to mix a halfords set with his blue point & snapon stuff, reckons all the lads will laugh at him

you dont generally sand between coats of any paint until ur ready to paint on the next type of paint, ie. primer to paint, paint to lacquer etc.
its always a good idea to flat the paint between each different paint so that the paint thickness is the same throughout and you have a good base for the next paint to be applied. not heard that u have to apply the 1st coat of lacquer to the paint before its cured before tho... seems a little odd as it could react with the paint a little if its still soft. may be wrong tho....
