nigelr32: How easy are the door cards to remove? The passenger side one on my car has been removed and put back, but it's missed a clip so i need to remove and pop back properly (i did ask Fiat but they said "it's supposed to be like that...") Is it just a case of removing the clip or wire connecting the door handle, then pulling? Does the mirror casing come off first or after? Any help appreciated, I'm sure it's a piece of p**s to do.

The interior trim around the mirror mounting must first be removed. Then there is a plastic trim just behind the interior door handle that has to be removed. (Like a "D" shape). There is an allen bolt behind that trim, and another one just under the interior handle/armrest. Then remove the two screws at the bottom of the panel. You must then pull the panel out away from the door itself, and lift it up off the flange that it hangs on adjacent to the window.

Hope this helps.....

Much appreciated, i'll press thanks. I'll give it a go in the morning.

What a Brilliant thread!. Appologies if I've missed it but what are you planning on the engine front?.

Happy new year

Julio

Initially Standard 1368 16v that was originally in the car. Don't really know whats next?? It may end up 8v so I can run a hairy Cam??

I also have Megasquirt2 to go on it at some stage.

1.2 is the best way for more performance and reliability six speed box is fitted to the rally car 130bhp ..cams available from c/b in different lifts..head mods can be done but looking on the guy croft forum reveals that head mods are a pain to do and give little improvement on the 8v [his wording] unless you go all out and do an over bore /high compression pistons head skim to increase the compression and fit cams/4 branch manifold decat exhaust etc in other words ..do the blooming lot..

Have you started to fully weld the body yet..? we want pics please..well I do ..;)

I admit 8v is the way go for daft cams and reliability. Not sure about 1.2 though?? The kit cars ended up as 1368 and claimed 157 bhp. I guess they went with 8v heads for a reason???? I know the 16v is a pig to work with as far as tuning goes.

In fact, was the 100hp an holomogation so they could run 1.4 litres in a kit car panda???

I haven't started the seam welding as yet. I'm currently removing seam sealer and sound deadening etc. I'll post some more pics later. Theres bare (Galvanised) metal everywhere now.

id go for the 1368 8v engine rather than the 1242. Like everybody says.....there no replacement for displacement.

my rally cinq is getting a 1242 8v, due to avalibility
my other cinq, well im hoping someone will sort out the 16v heads by than, if not it'll be a 1368 8v (maybe bored out abit aswell)

You'd be mad to drop the capacity

With regards to the 8v vs 16v;

The 1368cc 8v's from the factory run 76bhp http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=157597#a_engine

The 1368cc 16v's NA run 99bhp http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=149776#a_engine

The 1368cc 16v turbo run upto 148bhp http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=154055#a_engine

I can see the advatange of running an 8V if turbo'ing but you have a long way to start bettering fiats own 16v turbo engine....71 bhp.

If fiat can make the hydraulic lifter etc handle 148bhp, i bet theres still a lot of room for improvement

If sticking NA, an 8v has a lot of work to get close to the standard 16v's power (+23bhp). lots of expensive mods!

I don't know what power my lightly modded 1368cc is putting out , but i'd imagine it's somewhere in between the stock 1368cc and the turbo'd, way more towards the NA's range though ;). I do have clutch slip from time to time :bang: :( so I'd personnaly try and stick with a 16v if it were me.

Just had a quick read through, looks excellent, and fair play for ripping the thing apart, the pics will help other members know how their panda is put together too :)

Don't suppose you live anywhere near London/Luton? I'm quite serious, I've been on the lookout for space for a while now. Got a few leads to follow up in the new year.

Here's a couple of pics just to keep you all updated. All they show really is the areas where the seam sealer has been removed.

I know it doesn't look much, but believe it or not, there's about 15 hours work gone into it!!! AND.. I haven't even started underneath yet:bang::bang: I must be mad!!!

Oh, and here's a pic of my little helper...

She's on her trusty Blanket, in front of the Gas fire I use to stop my arms snapping off from the cold...
