500 (Classic) The forgotten 500

Introduction

Hello guys I'm new to the forum so thought I would introduce myself.

My name is Stefan people also know me as Navo.

I have recently undertaken my mother's newly acquired fiat 500 as a project as it required alot more work than first thought I'll be updating as I go and hopefully finding the help needed but mainly wanted to share it's story.

So here it is a 1972 RHD with 2 previous owners a mother and daughter. It spent most of its life in a garage (which had a leaky roof) unfortunately causing rust issues.

When delivered it was clear to see this was a longer term project, that's where I came in to the picture below are a few images of the little devil
Exciting times the head is back from its first stage of porting and polishing, it will be returning to be finnished off after the new valves and seats have been installed. But I'm very happy with the work. The ports have all been opened up and the chamber's too!

Great work and what a gift from Hugh Jarse, he is a great guy though! Not been on here of late so catching up as time permits, welcome and good luck with the build ?

What a great thread you've got going here Stefan/Navo. My experience of the "classic" 500 is limited to one my friend had back in the 1960's which I, from time to time, helped him keep running. So I know almost nothing about them and probably won't be posting here so I don't make a fool of myself! However I will be keeping up with the posts made here and enjoying every one I'm sure. Thank you.

So more progress has been made rust is being removed and fresh metal is going in also we decided on some custom wide arches to improve the body lines. Also another marmite modification is we are having the seams removed so it will be smooth all over not expecting everyone to like it but it will be built our way to our taste

Whilst I don't agree with the seam removal, it is your car and project, you can do whatever you like. Something to remember--the seams over the door also did the job of stopping water from running off the roof and into the door aperture! If you are cutting away the original wheel arches to allow for the new extensions (and you will have to if you lower the car) don't forget to weld the inner and outer wheel arches back together

Many thanks and this car won't ever see the rain so we should be good on that half it will prevent rust creeping its way back in to the seems on the future tho with a bit of luck also thanks for the advice on the arches

More parts ordered from Italia ! Should be more updates when they arrive as everyone knows Brexit has had a big effect on shipping times so we will see how long they take. After looking at options for suspension I decided I could do better for the money myself so I'll be compiling my own kit which will be rather special! (Once again probably not to everyone's taste)

Finally managed to squeeze some time free to be able to drop the tin ware off to be powder coated although the silver was nice we have chosen a colour very close to my heart cannot wait to see how these the out!!! ???

Do we have any guesses on the new colour??? ???
