:bang: Hello out there. I have a 53 plate 1.9JTD Multiwagon the looks like its on 40 Embassy a day. The black smoke appears on Start up and on acceleration. At night on heavy acceleration the car does a James Bond and makes the car behind me dissapear behind a smoke screen. Problem first noticed at 54k and has got progressively worse. Now its had its 72k service i have been told that the injectors may be to blame, however i am being told that the third year warranty doesn't cover it, nor does the first two year unlimited mileage warranty. The injectors are only covered for the first 31k so beware.

Has any one els out there suffered at the hands of dodgy Fiat warranty on injectors

Mine smokes if you give it a bootful after being off the throttle for a while - such as when you've got a BMW 318 glued to your rear bumper on the motorway and the fast lane suddenly clears up ahead :D - or if you put your foot down at low revs like 3rd gear at 20mph. I followed another nearly new JTD a while back and it was the same. Mine has done this since new though and it isn't remapped.

Exactly the same with mine except I tend to boot it AFTER the dual-carriageway. :D

You can get the same effect with many petrol powered motors too. Drive economically for say a month or so around town and then suddenly change your driving style  = instant smokescreen!

Have you confirmed this with Fiat direct? I can understand this to an extend on the 3rd year warranty (check the list of exclusions) but on the 2 years manufacturers warranty I thought pretty much everything was covered except tyres, pads those sort of things. You sure your dealer isn't trying to charge you then also claim back on warranty with Fiat?

mine's also smoking alot, i've added redex diesel cleaner but have been told vegtable oil is a better cleaner for the injectors

Veg oil is a good cleaner, in fact if you start running your car on vegie oil you will need to put another fuel filter in to catch all the gunk your tank will have built up running on dino diesel - however check that your hoses and pumps will not preish when exposed to vegie oil. Also running on non-duty paid fuel will get you into big trouble if they dip test you.

If you are going to clean out with vegie oil use Rape Seed Oil. Other types of oil are thicker and could clog up rather than clean out.

The Stilo goes to an independant diesel specialist on Monday for a diagnostic. Will update accordingly.

heh Im not sure about the amout of smoke but diesels do that. I was just driving behind the new 5 series bmw (diesel yes) on the motorway a week back or so and when he moved to the fast lane and booted it ...lol .. I was surprised, would not have expected such a car to do this

All diesels smoke when you boot them, no matter who they're manufactured by

i know, (see the "but diesels do that" part ) just expected for it to have some sophisticated filter or whatnot on it to make it barely noticable. It does not and it is, very much so.
