Ooooh, so its not just me. Omg THANKYOU! those are great tips, and I will try tomorrow. Absolutely wore me, and my poor ol back out. 😩

Do you happen to have a tip for getting the pedal onto the new master cylinder. I cant get the balljoint back together. Tried allsorts. Thinking there must be a knack, I clearly dont have. Thankyou!
Is it something like this design I had to fit on my daughters VW Golf, a right pain. The idea is the white plastic clip stays on the master cylinder as it engages in the pedal and two ears pop out to lock it into place, if it is that sort.

I'm trying hard to remember what it's like. I seem to remember it's rather more like the ball connector on the gearchange cables? it presses on from the side if I remember - been some time since I did one, but I seem to remember my biggest longest thickest screwdriver came into it somewhere - being used as a lever? Or am I thinking of another one. It's not like the VAG one, I don't think?

This was on daughter's 2010 VW Golf Plus 1.6 diesel with plastic pedals and clutch cylinders. The ball end rod going into the master cylinder had that plastic piece that swiveled on the ball but engaged into the plastic pedal, locked into place by two ears in the white bit.
I lost interest in VW after paying £400 odd on genuine pedals and cylinder, which were sticking even after all replaced, I seem to recall her VW Tiguan had similar fault.

One of the only serious failures I had on the old Cordoba 1.9 tdi was that the clutch pedal went to the floor just outside the Queen's residence Holyrood Palace - Now King's residence of course. Very embarrassing! I tried pulling the pedal up with my left foot but it was all floppy and obviously not just a return type problem - such as sometimes happens with master cylinders. A kind chap helped me push her to the side of the road - 2 wheels on pavement, which would get me booked now - and further examination revealed the fitting on the pedal itself had sheared off. I drove it home without a clutch pedal, starting the engine with first gear selected and "judging" gear changes as I went - an old chap who learned to drive a lorry with a "crash" gearbox taught me how to do it. It's not all that difficult if you've got a good ear and can overcome the sheer terror of the first couple of clutchless shifts! Once home I removed the pedal, retrieved the broken bits, made some reinforcing bits and welded it all back together. It was the metal bits on the pedal which the nylon fitting in your picture fits into. Close examination showed it had only been "tack" welded in a couple of places. My MIG made a good solid job of it and it never gave any more trouble in all the years I owned it. I distinctly remember the nylon fitting was quite reluctant to go back into the fitting on the side of the pedal. As you will gather, my pedal was all metal.

ty, no. i cant get a pic now, as its dark. but the clutch pedal has a ball on it, on the side, and theres a plastic cup on the rod thing from the master cylinder. it swivels, and its meant to go on it. I just cant get enough force. ive tried various pliers, a hammer and screwdriver as leverage, those wrench things that you can lock into size, idk, i think theyre mol grips, but im not sure. anyway, i dont have the strength in my hands, and theres no room to be able to hammer it on.

getting it off i used a screwdriver, and i thought itd just pop back on. i was wrong.

Its an absolute nightmare, and I'm super stuck. 😭😭😭

yeah, the ball is on the pedal, the socket on the rod from the master cylinder. I got it off with a screwdriver as leverage, but theres no room to get it back on, and my hands arent strong enough to force it back on. ive tried the entire toolbox, and all the swears. 😭

So I imagined it would pop back on, much like the gear cables as Jock says.
Maybe levering against something with a screwdriver might help
Of course now I can't find any guides showing it going back on :(

Like you I have driven many customers cars without clutch operation, although depending on circumstances, bottom of a hill in busy traffic being the usual problem.;););)
As you say once off, then changing gear is a case of balancing engine speed to gears etc. Also being able to engage neutral before any junctions.:)
 
A photo will help , but looking at a pedal assembly on eBay, if it is the same one it appears the ball fitting on the pedal is at right angles to the pedal press down position , so I see what you mean about getting enough force to push sideways in a limited space in foot well.
The only thing I can suggest is a bit of suitable grease in the cup and on the ball, then whatever leverage you have to push them together and then with your third hand??? Possible operate the pedal a little as it may ease engagement onto the cup.
I once spent ages on a Fiat Doblo gear linkage fitting only to find they had supplied the wrong cable with 10mm cup to fit the 12mm ball end!!!
Another thing is I have several different size mole grips and if you have a suitable one to get in there, adjust it so it is only just pushing the two parts together, then wriggle the pedal and gently increase the tension on the mole grips by the adjuster screw at the same time to progressively encourage the two parts to mate. It does need doing gently as you do not want to damage the plastic cup.

I've just popped mine back on
Using a long screwdriver to lever it on against the steering column
Had to push the pedal down a little
And a blob of grease in the cup probably helps
Will add a vid in a tic...
I bet that's why I seem to remember using my biggest longest screwdriver!

omg ure an actual angel! i was gonna try wedging a piece of wood beside that thing, as i was worried about breaking it. i wasnt sure what it was. i was gonna make the bit of wood take the force. i now know its a steering column lol. thankyou so so much.

my back has been a nightmare all night, so i figure i can get down to the footwell, but may have to spend a few days there, until my back unlocks. lol

also, rookie mistake. i expected everything to work, so left the window down. so that was down all night. thankfully the good ppl of norfolk left my frog squishmallow alone. so always make sure ure windows are shut when you take the battery out.

Don't overdo it with a dodgy back, take time to rest if you need it.
And well done the honest folk of Norfolk (you're lucky The Panda Nut wasn't in the vicin, I bet he'd have scoffed it) I left all five doors of t'Panda open the other night, had to put towels down but still got wet bums
