New Feature Social Group Notifications

New Feature Social Group Notifications

You'll see a new notification counter in the "Notification Dropdown" called "Social Groups" which tells you how many of your (joined) groups have new messages.

The groups with new messages are the bolded ones and once you've read all messages in the group (or used the "mark group as read") this will then clear down.

I know a lot of you had been asking for it - so there you go (y)

Same here dave, I'm stuck with 1 notification despite having read all of them :(

I have one notification that won't go away. People asked for this feature? Why?

The bolding is quite weird in this version of vBulletin.

For now (and only once) - you need to go to each group and click the "Mark Group As Read" - this will then reset the counter.

Then next time you log in, if you get a notification and go to the groups page, the updated group will be bold. HOWEVER, if you don't view it that time, and go at next logo - the bold will be lost.

Actually, thinking about it - on the main groups page, in the "Your Groups" section, are any of them bold for you guys?

Ok, found the error (in theory).

The bolding on the SG pages resets when you log out and in again, whereas the notification parameter doesn't. Actually, I think the notification method is correct, so I'm going to try and edit the other way (if it's not embedded too deeply somewhere).

Failing that, I'll reverse it, so the notification mimicks the default view.

Right - completely rewritten it, it now follows the bolding method of the stock software.

It's slightly quirky in its method, but basically, if you've ever read a thread in a group, the date you did will be the "used date" for that group when working out if there are any new posts (unless it's over 2 weeks, then it resets).

If you haven't ever read a thread in a group, then it will use your last login time. So you'll only get notified once (ie - if you log out and in again, that group will no longer show as new - doh!)

It's showing notifications again. Is there any way to turn this feature off? It's hugely annoying. If it's going to alert me can it please indicate where the unread thread is? Or link to it?

If it's showing notifications, it means one of your groups has new posts.

When you click the link, it will take you to the group listing page. At the bottom of the page, it lists "Your Groups" - the ones with new posts will be bold.

If you click a bold group and there are no new posts, then it's a vBulletin bug, as the notification counter just counts all the bold groups ....
