do you know if thats the real average wage or just from the news?

pretty common for figures to be tweaked to suit a cause(on either side) in these situations

Eh hows that a fail? All I was saying is the government take a massive chunk of tax on the price per litre at the pumps....

But yes I agree with you, In this climate you need to be thankful that you're employed. I wouldn't call it a hard / difficult job when you can call an agency and get a replacement same day.

Stupid tanker drivers should be happy they have a job, if they don't like the conditions they should feck orf and let the people who are desperate for work take over.

spot on! as said before, they knew their working conditions when they became hgv drivers. They even knew about what to expect when becoming an HGV driver.

PPl like me who cant do what i want to do, and yet ppl like them whingin about it :bang:

Generally speaking there are only two really good types of HGV driving jobs going, fuel tankers and car transporters. The two groups of HGV drivers who have the best safety records are fuel tankers and supermarket drivers. Mainly becuse they are not pushed as hard to get to deliveries on time as are most which increases the safety standards.

Pushing them harder would, so the argument goes, increase the risk of crashes.

I am not saying it is right in this case as I don't actually know what they do or the pay they actually get.

But if it is true, how many of you would be happy with changes to your working requirements and believe me very few of you could not be easily replaced in your jobs.

I get paid a huge amount more than a tanker driver, but I would be upset if I had to change the way I work with no compensation for it.

People were panic buying round here yesterday, most places had blocked off HGV diesel pumps, and had every other pump locked.

I had today off work (petrol station), so decided to go on duty today, what did I end up doing? Standing infront of Total and Shell saying it was closed...

Got a feeling I'll be doing the same tomorrow.

We had word yesterday about 2pm about the strikes, further details will be sent to me with dates, i'll post the dates when i get them, but we have been told to keep our vans full put it this way

The reason they are striking is the targets being pushed by the employers, when you unload petrol you have to keep the delivery rate on the pipe down, any faster than a certain rate and you risk static build up and risk of ignition, the employers are pushing the drivers to get round more petrol stations and the only way they can
can meet the targets set is by unloading faster putting lives at risk. So kinda see where they are coming from now. . .
