Shell tanker drivers

Nothing, besides looking for industry work. I am part of several groups, where jobs pop up. I have one credit since finishing uni, my job is not related, but I am always looking, even if I see V crews filming I offer an hour or twos work free of charge fetching and carrying etc.

LandieMan i worked as well as uni i lost my job on Friday, now im ****ed. Soldiers who are out there fighting don't get 40k+ a year so why should a truck driver. Dont see any servicemen spitting their dummy's out and complaining.

Hey everyone gets to make a choice I certainly would not want to have been in the British Army when i was younger, but now i am 50 heck i could be retired on a decent pension and actually working in a specialised field too, if i had any special Army/RAF/navy training. and if you note, they don't get paid peanuts either with extra money for extra operational duties.still would not have been for me but don't see where you are coming from? armed services 22 years service and then you get a full pension heck that means by what 40 or 42 years of age you could be retired.....seems like a lot of the moaning is coming from people who ,what made bad judgement calls concerning future employment and type of degrees they took! Jeeze the amount of people who do or done mickey mouse degrees, don't do checks on the workforce market prior to choosing and then assume they will walk into better jobs makes me laugh. Its been happening for almost 2 decades now a yet some are non the wiser and having digs at other groups wage structures isnt going to change a thing and note i left school in 1979 and the early 80s were no different to the problems we have now...:bang:

And who will fix them computers?

Indeed. Not only that the Army are already using driver less trucks that can even drive off road and handle awkward terrain :slayer: (tonight's Top Gear!)

IT degree's are mickey mouse. I know 4 people who have an IT degree and not one of them works in IT...

As I said earlier in the thread to LandieManyou're looking at this in the context of the protest these drivers have.

These drivers are protesting to get a pay rise they are protesting because they are having their pay cut, which is not only costing them in terms of salary its also having a huge impact on their pensions.

This is what I said

you earn under £10,000 a year ok so your boss decides to effectively cut your wages by £1000 a year which costs you £50,000 off your pension when you reach retirement?

you're 23 (I think i saw in another thread?) so can be expected to work till you are 68-70 something like that (probably more) so over the next 40 years you are out £1000 a year and £50,000 at the end of it so your employer has taken £90,000 away from you without you having any choice or say in the matter.

do you think thats fair? £90,000 out of your pocket, you are lucky to have a job but is that any reason for an employer to take money away from you? now consider its BP its not like they are a struggling small business that needs to cut costs, i think they are pretty justified.

Can you no see why they are protesting? If I took £100,000 out of your pocket would you shrug it off and be 'grateful to have a job' I'm sure then you might have a better appreciation of the injustice

Computers will run everything soon then myself and all the other people who take these degrees will be laughing. Mickey mouse degree lol try doing one!
I don't know if you've noticed but computers already do run everything, the problem with a computing degree is if you can't work in the programming language or system than an employer wants/needs then you're just as irrelevant as all the other candidates without a computing degree

lol so i get hate because of the posts i make, and now i get basically insulted on the degree i do. I would like to see you actually try to do an IT degree. Least i aint on the dole or have mummy and daddy pay for everything.

Nooooo, you got comments in opposition to the views you hold over this particular case, you got 'Hate' or as someone with a grasp of the english language might call it 'mocked' because you made this statement.

I took a degree in IT ~ its not a "mickey mouse" degree. Computers will run everything soon then myself and all the other people who take these degrees will be laughing. Mickey mouse degree lol try doing one!

Now probably should point out many people on here including myself have degrees, (I'm looking at starting a masters soon) as well as numerous other qualifications. many of us know what is and isn't a "Mickey Mouse degree" so your statement is quite bold giving the complexity of the industry in which you are training and intend to work.

Given your attitude however?, what do you want, a medal for getting on a course? does it some how make you better than everyone else who works hard for a living, cleaners lorry drivers shop assistance they all have a job to do and a right to earn a decent living. Drop the superiority complex and come back when you have a certificate because at the moment you're just an unemployed student.

n.b Throwing around the phrases `get hate' just makes you sound like a stroppy teenager who isn't getting his own way. (y)
