Hi guys, im looking for some advice. Ive a got a wee 2001 Seicento. The steering is heavy, but only when turning right. Now ive had a garage put diagnostic on it, as they informed me it may be possible to re calibrate it, but it was not possible. The steering malfunction warning light comes on with the ignition and goes off shortly after starting, as i believe it should. So the bulb hasnt been removed! Lol. So the garage have said it need the column replaced. Fair enough. So i should be able to do that myself, but i would appreciate a bit of a how to, so i dont make a pigs ear of it. If any one can offer advice please? Ive got a fair idea, just wanna be aware of any common niggles i might experience along the way.
Also, will it need to be coded in with diagnostic after, or anything like that? Or is it just a case of a straight swap? Many thank in advance!!
Darren

Ive also checked relays and fuses for correct seating, corrosion on terminal ect. All seem ok.

Hi Darren, and welcome,

the pas has torque sensors..it sounds as if that's your issue

if you use a detailed diagnostic toll, you should be able to read the corresponding fault codes from the steering,
MultiECUScan can also set-up the steering electronics after and components have been changed,

look in the GUIDES section..,
Both Punto2/B, and panda 2003 / 12 have very similar systems,

Brilliant. Thanks mate. Are the torque sensors an integral part of the column? In other words if i just stick a replacement column on it, would that remedy it?
Im unsure what diagnostic the garage have/used, but they said it didnt have any fault codes on it? What diag is required then, just so i can make sure i take it some where with the right kit (if i have to) im a bit dubious about this garage, who market themselves as fiat specialists, im starting to doubt that as its the first time ive used them.
And i would need to have it set up after fitting a replacement( if required) in order for it to work correctly?

Ive gor the steering rack out, can i just confirm the torque sensor is part of it, think it has a metal gaurd with security torx screws?
And if i fit a replacement, it will require diagnostics to program it in?
Need this confirmed ASAP PLEAS GUYS, i need to get his car back on the road!!
Thanks!
