Hi everyone, on my Brothers car . Ive changed drive shaft Gaiters o/s and now need torque settings for hub nut, lower ball joint to hub nut and hub to suspension strut bolts and track rod end nut also front caliper bolts please. No Haynes Manuals avaliable ? Also what size Allen Key is Gearbox filler Please mine only go up to 10 mm and its bigger. Many thanks in advance.P.S.this job has been fighting me all the way lol.

Hi & welcome, I've recently put a new driveshaft on my Seicento & the torque setting for the hub nut is 240nm, the Allen key for the gearbox filler should be 12mm. As for the ball joints, strut bolts & caliper bolts I'd just do them up tight or as some of us say FT. There is a Seicento workshop manual you can download off here or you could get a Cinquecento Haynes manual as mechanically it's the same car. I know how you feel lol, my Seicento has also been fighting me all the way as well, it's part of Cento ownership 😂.

Thank you Matt, that's very kind of you to reply. I will download the workshop manual ASAP. My Brothers had the car 11 years its a fantastic rust free litle car ,I look after it as an ex HGV mechanic.Id recommend these cars to anyone .The only trouble is even Fiat dealers can't supply one or two bits and neither can local spares shops. As these bits parts jobs have probably never been changed before every thing was hard to dismantle . Any way I'm on the home straight now hopefully not to many more obstacles lol.Sure I'll ask more soon. .haha.

I'd also recommend them, their just brilliant little things. That's the only thing with these little cars now, some of the parts are getting a little hard to find, some parts for mine I've had to get from Europe. The worst bit on mine was when I changed the front struts one side came out lovely but the other side even with lots of penetrating fluid it took over an hour to get the 2 bolts out, then the anti roll bar brackets just fell apart where they were that rusty as I needed to change the outer bushes so they had to come from Germany as nowhere else had them in stock along with new nuts & bolts from a local supplier, then the studs snapped on the centre brackets for the anti roll bar, the only place you can get them brackets is Poland for £65 a side😬 so I thought stuff that I cut the head of the stud with a small grinder on a dremel, banged the remains out with a small chisel & changed it to a nut & bolt which cost less than £5, I've had a few little teething troubles with this one as it had only done 22k in 24 years but like yourself I think I'm on the home straight with it now 😂 & the cars being used more regularly now which I think helps as I've done 3k miles in the few months I've owned it. For most of the parts here's the 3 main suppliers I use.

1) Shop4Parts
They still carry quite a few parts for Seicento's & also if you donate to the forum you get 10% of every order so the donation pays for itself if you use Shop4Parts regularly.

2) Italiparts
This company is really good as they only source & sell genuine obsolete Fiat & Alfa new old stock parts so if you need something for a Cento that's hard to find look on their site before going to a main dealer as they might have what you're looking for.

3) Ricambio
This company are classic 500 specialists but they also sell parts for other Fiat's including Cento's with quite a variety of parts with quick delivery.

The driveshaft I changed was the near side one which doesn't have a balance weight so not 100% sure on that one, someone else on here more experienced than myself will probably know though, is there not some sort of mark on the shaft from where the balance weight was sat ?. I found the manual cannot be downloaded on an android or smartphone etc so I have it on my laptop, I'll have a look on the laptop later at the manual to see if the thread size is stated but if not the only thing i can recommend is to buy a new track rod end for the nut as they are pretty cheap anyway.

Many thanks yet again Matt.My name is Paul by the way.Today my brother found someone selling a complete O/S Drive Shaft with a photo so we put it as close as photo on a raised section of shaft. Torqued hub nut 177 lbf as per your 240 nm.Once I read Your downloads may find some more settings.I like things right lol.He got 12 mm adaptor for Gearbox ,it was tight to open after WD 40 application. Will put back old oil (safely been stored)and some more new EP 80 I've had in Garage for several years.Need to get new Nyloc for track rod end.Not sure of thread type ,my box of new nylons don't help either or bolts for comparison . Anyway if you know please tell me . Hopefully will be going next week ,my Brother wants it back to go to work.Bit wet at times on an electric push bike !

Hi Paul, I've just looked at the manual, although it's not the clearest at times 😂 but got there in the end as the manual is about 3 folders worth & it states the nut for the track rod end is an M10 nut as below.

My gearbox plug wasn't too bad to get off but the oil drain plug must have done up by the worlds strongest man 😂 but it came off eventually & now it's all nice.

Hi again Matt.Merry Christmas to you and your Family. The cars been on road few weeks now. Those torque figures on that download don't make sense. Can you please convert to nm or lbf for track rod end nut and front strut to hub assembly bolts please if you can .I got from my Fiat dealer 2 new track rod end nylock nuts with hopefully fine thread, to fit one tomorrow. Both trade £2.64.Every other spares shop or Garage had corse thread including me.Thanks in advance Paul 🎄

Hi Paul, merry Christmas to yourself & your family also. The Fiat ones are never the clearest, however I have recently purchased a Haynes manual for a Cinquecento as you cannot purchase one for a Seicento but all the torque settings, mechanicals etc are exactly the same & a lot of people on here use the Cinquecento manual for the Seicento, the only thing that's really different is the bodyshell, according to the manual the torque settings are

. Track rod end nuts - 34 nm
. Front suspension strut to hub nuts - 108 nm

Hope this helps

You are a true star Matt, thanks tomorrow I will put these into practice .I will probably be asking about Gear selection when hot for reverse, crunching sound. And a push to get in 1st or 2nd some times.Any thoughts, before i post ?

2 things come to mind with this one, it could be

1)
The clutch cable might just need adjusting, the plastic adjuster nut is on the end of the cable on top of the gearbox which on your brother's car being a later model should be a lot more accessible than on my 899 as my car has the air filter housing etc above the gearbox. With my car I usually have it adjusted so that the clutch pedal is level with the brake pedal, also whilst you're at it grease up the entire clutch mechanism with spray grease & repeat this every few weeks as it'll take the strain of the mech & also you'll have a lovely light pedal.

2)
Other thing it could be is the rear gearbox mount, the other gearbox mount & engine mount are not known for going but the rear one is common for going on Cento's as when I first got my Seicento it would crunch between 1st & 2nd if you changed too fast for it's liking 😂 & reverse wouldn't always go in first time, when it's bad enough you'll feel slight movement & hear a very slight grinding like noise when pulling away, what happens is the rubber in the mount starts to deform & misshape whilst also cracking through the centre of the rubber which results in excessive movement & some difficulty in gear changing, I changed mine recently as it was that worn I could move it with my hand & it's completely transformed the car in terms of gear changing & the whole driveability, also it got rid of the slight excessive body roll I had. It's quite easy to do as well & only takes about 30 mins, there's 2 bolts where the mounts attaches to the body, I think 3 bolts where the bracket for the mount attaches to the gearbox & the whole lot drops out, then to release the mount from the bracket it's just a nut & bolt that goes through the centre of the mount, it's quite tight so an impact gun is your best friend for getting that one off.

This is the gearbox mount in question, when you install the mount to the car you have to make sure it goes in the right way up as people have been known to put the mount in upside down & have to do the job again a month later, the mount in the picture is the right way up so the metal plate is on top & is not visible once fitted to the car. The pics of my new mount below show what it should look like fitted to the car

Very comprehensive Matt.I will try lubrication first in side the pedal box and gearbox end.Free play is OK at moment but may adjust a tad .Will look at said mount and consult my Brother before I get carried away haha.Speak soon with update and no doubt a few more defects that the Little car has( nothing serious just annoying).

P.s. its got 68000 plus on clock ,so doubt it's had a clutch change. Also it doesnt slip the clutch and as said only plays up when done a good few miles.

Happy New Year Matt to you and your Family. My Brothers reported back before Xmas that the lubrication of pedal box and clutch cable in car and under bonnet and reduction (very slightly ) of free play on clutch cable ,has resulted in better Gear changing and engagement when hot and cold.My latest quest is for information on where do you buy an inner (Gearbox end) CV Gaiter off side .Fiat don't do any more and no luck Euro parts or various factor shops .We hot glue gunned the old one but it split again. Lucky split at top and it don't rotate so less dirt into gearbox at moment. Many thanks in advance .ps if I don't get one we wiil get an old gaiter and cut patch onto offending slit and glue over.

Hi Paul happy new year to you & your family also, I'm glad that lubricating the clutch mechanism has helped, it certainly made my car a lot better. In regards to the offside inner CV boot Ricambio have 2 different ones on their site for the Seicento.

Or Shop4Parts who are the favoured supplier on the forum & I cannot fault them in any way as everything I've ever purchased off them has always fitted with no issues, there isn't any listed on their site at the moment but sometimes they have stock in that isn't on their site so could be worth giving them a ring, here are their details
