was driving and went to flash someone out of a junction and something broke on the indicator stalk. now the flash function does not work, the lights and dip function all work so assume is the flash switch bit that has broken. have found a complete steering column and switches ( even has steering motor & ignition and a key so well worth it ) for a good price on ebay. any tips on getting it replaced, mainly ref getting the clock spring in right place when fitting as i assume its all in the switch cluster, any one know how many turns etc to get in central position. think is a MOT fail if no flash so needs replacing but not due for a couple of month so no rush. any suggestions appreciated

Clock spring centralisation is factory set, there is no X number of turns rule. This is why going down the used part route is very risky.

Personally I'd centralise yours, lock it in place, and then strip down your unit and the donor and transplant the inners from the indicator stalk over - fairly easy (y)

thanks for that, will have a look at the replacement one when i get it off, they look pretty much like a sealed switch unit from pictures i have seen

Not at all :)

Hi,
ours broke in the same way at 9 months old.. bit old for a warranty claim now though : - {

this HAS been covered on here before.., niggling doubt = there were some variant / year options that are non-compatable - SEARCH

as MEP says , it CAN be done..,

yes noticed the differences and variants mine has the little push on the wiper arm for the trip reset etc so got one of those coming , bought the whole steering column complete with air bag, stalks, covers, steering wheel and power steering motor and ecu, looks like just been taken off a car even has ignition key.

Awesome picture, so am i right in assuming that the clock spring comes away with the switch cover?
is there any little springs that are going to fly out when you take apart ?
are there wires in the stalks for rotational ends ?

From memory the twist switches have a small rod which run to the end and the electrical switch is on the main backing board. The only thing a wire runs down the wiper stalk for is the trip reset button, and again this plugs on and off of the main panel :)

Nothing sprung or jumped out from memory, but it was 5 years ago now :eek: :p

parts have arrived, stripped steering column down ( new one ) got switch off ok. looks like clock spring is 5 turns from end to end , all looks good and metered out the wires ok so might just change complete unit over. think will wait till off work for a week in july to start changing it over just incase anything goes wrong then i have a week to fix it. going to post some pics in a new thread about the bits behind the wheel.
