Technical 2009 Panda Flashing ABS & Steering when indicating

Thanks Koalar ;), I have the car with me until I fix it now so have time for detailed testing. Will try the voltage graph, think one of my diag tools can do this, but does it when accessing the ECU so may crash out if power drops. Will test & report back here.

Do you have the headlights on ?

My dynamic only the LCD lights up at key on

And if the headlights are on I get a green warning light

Been a long time since I have sat behind an active dash

When you say ECU I take it you mean engine ECU? When the fault happens I do get this:

No, headlights were off. I asked another panda owner about the dash illum, they say theirs (2008) comes on with ign on & dims when lights on. This one fails to illum unless lights are turned on. I was just on the same train of thought when saw your reply. Yes get green warn light with lights on.

Body Computer codes after the fault attached. Note the battery is approx 8 months old & tests good with battery tester, alternator charging 14.2V.

Plot the ECU voltage

This is just the first few seconds

If it's an ignition switch or main fuse, relay or earth

You should see a corresponding blip here also,

B1004

Is the one I'd be concentrating on

Low power, to the body computer

Without the right voltage, it can communicate properly, any how

Still need to know whether it's a car wide problem, or just the body computer

Graph the ECU power supply is still a good first step

Worth looking here assuming if the ECU does not fluctuate

Later cars just have a eye, nut and stud system instead of the little black connector

Nice one! Just been to check voltages, did graphs just going to look. What I did find is that ABS & Instrument panel can drop down to 11.2V if i turn on heater speed to 1 (most load on resistor) plus all lights incl brake, interior light, turning the steering & wipers on with wash etc. I was using the parameters display on MES. Note that Power steering was 14.1V in same test, engine ECU 13.6V approx on same test. Unable to do Body Computer as appears no parameter for Voltage on that which seems odd.
Dark now so will check the C020 B in the morning. Power or earth issue certainly looking likely at the present stage, 11.2V certainly not enough for ECU's, although the fault didn't appear once during tonight's checks.
ps the other panda owner gave me the wrong info earlier, the dash illumination goes on with the lights only, not when ignition is turned on.

Well I managed to find the cause. Bad earth, C020 was ok, but the main earth to the body was bad, despite the engine earth being good. The interior of the car was earthed but tested at about 75Ohms when checked to battery neg terminal. Kicking myself for not looking at that first, but until I had time on it my previous checks were time limited. The body computer was previously reading 12.6v with engine running (as per readings last night), now it reads 13.9-14.2V which is what i was looking for.
Thanks for all your help with this Koalar, really appreciate it! (y)

Cool

Great feedback, often these threads go dead, and we never find out what the fix was

Dam we missed an easy first step

There was a clue here

Instrument panel can drop down to 11.2V if i turn on heater speed to 1

A voltage drop test between the battery and the chassis with the main beam and rear heater on would have found this instantly as it would measure over 2V

Yup...kicking myself. Clutch had been replaced before this started, think the battery was replaced as a first remedy, then I got involved. Appears the clutch people left the earth bolt loose enough to make contact, but corrosion over the winter months made the body earth flag terminal lose it's shine/contact.

Now onto a van that won't start due to the AdBlue light staying on.....hoping MES can sort that as it's a Citroen Relay which ought to be identical. All good fun!
