How do I open to bleed air out of the system. It’s plastic and I don’t want to snap it. Thanks

Use a good right size slotted screwdriver.....hold the valve with one hand and gently press and turn (anticlockwise ).....not all the way out,

Do this while engine is running and you have turned the heater knob to max. Not the fan control ,

Great, exactly what I needed to know… thanks.

Is this true? What do I top up with if Hyde fluid is low? Not long had the car so no
Idea what’s in it coolant wise

There's two bleed screws

One on the heater matrix hose, should undo with your fingers, it's only a very small nylon thread, so easy to snap

The other is on the radiator and is quite difficult to find unless you already know it is

What colour is your coolant

Depends what's it's already filled with

They don't all mix nicely

Inorganic Additive Technology (IAT)
Organic Acid Technology (OAT)
Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT)
With or without phosphates,
With or without silicates
and so on

If it looks red it's almost certainly safe to use OAT

Ok so fluid levels good and no air coming out of the bleed screw. Is there another coolant bleed screw I’ve missed. Also thermostat stays solidly in the middle of the gauge when driving. Maybe my heater is good… are the heaters weak in these cars?

Btw I think they are great little motors. Tiny roads on Exmoor etc.

Heaters should be too hot to be comfortable, if you place your hands near the vent, if set fully to the red, fans on 2, if the fans are on full it will lower the temperature

Blocked heater matrix may be ?

After a drive are both the inlet hose and outlet hose to the heater matrix getting very hot, fans off

Quite rare in the panda but we did have a blocked one this week

Here's the other bleed screw

Ok I’ll check. I love these motors. Open the bonnet and you can see the road. Things look accessible. I suppose that DIY concept died with the last Panda sold in the UK.

Should it be possible to open the one on the radiator by hand? I could not, and didn't want to risk breaking it with tools. I'm guessing it's never been opened.

Should be hand tight

Probably been over tightened, I have had to use pliers on a car, but be gentle

It's not I big deal if it does not open, just make bleeding more long winded, there should be a one way valve built into the thermostat, (missing from some super cheap china ones) eventually any air will arrive and be trapped near the heater matrix bleed

I fitted a new Marelli thermostat last year, and yes the heater matrix bleed valve seemed sufficient though it took a few attempts.

The plastic bleed screw on the heater hose is ordinary M6. If you do break it, a flange head M6 stainless works nicely. I made a leather washer, but PTFE tape would probably work. A left-hand drill (3mm) will unscrew the fragment. An ordinary 3mm drill will spin it into the tube. It probably causes no harm.

An aftermarket steel pipe at exit from water pump fits fine and works fine but can be a faff to bleed.
