This other chap was indeed a second choice to Fox - but first officially confirmed in the role.

It wasn't working out, so with a good chunk of filming done they binned him and persuaded Fox to take on the film on top of his TV commitments with Family Ties...

If only I could remember his name though...(and no, I'm not going to cheat)

I reckon that was the case indeed. I think they did shoot a few scenes and as I mentioned, screen tests but it didn't go beyond that and as a result said actor didn't get the big break Mr Fox did. He still managed to go on and be in a few decent films though
