Having trouble deciding what springs to order, i can still get fk 70/50 but worried it might be too low and stiff for the roads here, 60/40 seems a better compromise but i always think the back still looks too high on -40's

decisions.....

May do :) still thinking about it

Been a niggly annoying kinda day, but it's dawned on me that actually, this is the hardest part. Stripping stuff down, dealing with seized bolts, sanding down and rust proofing parts etc. Once this stage is done, it's more bolting up fresh bits.

The rear is by far more fiddly than the front too, now have the rear drivers side totally stripped down bar the trailing arms and arb. will just sand and treat them on the car i think. Spotted that they have been rubbing the braided brake lines and they are just starting to rust where they rub, so that needs attention. Also found a little more rot under the rear bumper mounts (which have been removed and treated tonight), so caught that in time thankfully :)

plan tomorrow is to finish stripping down the passenger side rear, sand down inner rear arches and seal them up.Hopefully start on protecting the rear arb and arms, then the back is pretty much done :)

Not really too many big updates because it's all been boring stuff, painting the underside to protect it.

However, just got myself management/immobiliser/key/barrel setup from a mk1 punto sporting, so that's some progress :D

engine wise, looks like i'm going to be "forced" to go 1.2 16v as i'm struggling to source a 1.4.

Maybe if the ignorant ****ing pricks at certain places would answer phones and emails, i'd find something....

guess they don't want the business.

Anyway, the challenge is to get this on the road for the start of May.

Just in time for 10th anniversary celebrations :D

Or is that possibly jinxing things...[attachment=1:16kqcvjf]eusa_silenced.gif[/attachment:16kqcvjf]

I'm 100% not aiming for the birthday bash, if it makes it, that's just a bonus

Realistically, if it was to make it for that, it means i'd have to have it ready 2 weeks beforehand. After all it needs mot'd, a few shakedown runs, time to sort any teething issues, anything missed etc etc.

The aim is cupar really. It might not seem that tight a deadline but given how little time a day i get in between work and losing daylight just now.....

or can i add a car i havnt bought in to this :p

Nope

Pretty pissed off today for 2 reasons.

1. I've not done anything on it for 2 days because i'm full of the cold.

2. The place i've been trying to contact for near 2 weeks about a car they have so i can get the engine finally got back to me today, they crushed it yesterday. Well if you had bothered your ****ing arses to pick up the phone or answer emails in that time..... livid.

Yup, 1.4 16v's are like hens teeth. 1.2 16v's usually aren't too hard to come by but for some reason, there is a shortage at the moment.

Normally u-pullit has loads on 1.2 16v's, they have 1 (and no diea how good that is given the car it is in looks good, so wonder why it is in there, possible mechanical). And my more local scrappies have none whatsoever just now, yet have weird things in like Stilo Abarths (with manual gearbox), punto hgt's and a multijet panda

Ecu kit is here :)

but th bigger news is potentially, i've hopefully got me an engine :D

Work re-commences tomorrow seeing as i'm now able to breathe again now the ****ing cold is on the way out :)

Finally got a little bit done today, hopeful engine will be here this week or next so continuing with prep. So far the back of the car has been on axle stands, today was the fronts turn, but first i tackled the p/s hub nut. Hammered a screwdriver into the pinches, gave it a wiggle and the screwdriver shattered  opps :D

so i attack the second pinch with another screwdriver.... which promptly shatters too :D

third time lucky (and with the help of the remaining stubs of screwdrivers), the pinches were out the hub nut, cracked the nut off with my teensy extension bar in the socket set, felt like i was the hulk for about 5 seconds

So jacked the front of the car up, got axle stands under the front. As we all know, they are small cars so when you jack up one corner, another always follows. to get the car level when it drops i took the chance to re-adjust the free axle stands... which erm... went well. as i was adjusting the rear passenger side, my hydraulic jack failed and i got the fright of my life, i'm sure that car hates me :D all good now though, secured on 4 stands, wheels all off, rear suspension all off, front will come off tomorrow and i'll finish off underside rustproofing and a few minor details.

Have a few big surprises hopefully this week (and hopefully some pics daylight allowing :D )

we resume this weekend :) starting to get quite excited, the last kinda "brain" parts are en route. The engine is secured.... it "could" be that this time in 2 weeks (bearing in mind that the engine will need all the precautionary belts, gaskets etc done), that there will be something theoretically possible to start up....

I'm doing things a wee bit different as to recommended though, so we'll see if my plans work out on the details :)

Nothing too out there, just have a different plan for exhaust (more modifying what i already have both to physically connect to the 16v engine and stop the constant problems i had whilst running it on the 8v) and the wiring loom (though not so different that if it doesn't work, it can't be re-done the "normal" way).

Just have a personal preference to do it my own way after thinking for years that folk massively over complicate the wiring, if it works, great, i'll have made it much easier for folk in future. If not then i'll just do it the normal way. No progress is ever made by following the crowd 100% :)
