SO - they definitely are Different!!!!

The 1000s part No is 5970312
and 4x4 7554487

Thanks Alan!!!

I hope there is a noticeable power increase!!!!

Well, it's an increase of 11.11% so it should be fairly noticable. With your cars weight reductions it's now about 140kg lighter than the Panda 4x4 as well so it should seem to fly!

Some quick power to weight ratio calculations (vehicle unladen):

Panda 1000 is 700kg with 45bhp as standard so that's a power to weight ratio of 64bhp/tonne.

Panda 4x4 is 790kg with 50bhp as standard so that's a power to weight ratio of 63bhp/tonne.

Your car lightened and tuned should be 650kg with 50bhp so that's a power to weight ratio of 77bhp/tonne. (Equivalent to increasing your bhp by 13bhp, not bad.)

To get a power to weight ratio of 100bhp/tonne you need to lose another 150kg! Oh, and weigh nothing yourself because as soon as you get in it the figures are bo####ed. Oh well.

Er.... so dry weight is without petrol yes? in which no BHP will be produced at all so that also screws the figures up:D

I wonder if there's a market for aftersales reduced capacity washer bottles and petrol tanks..... also smaller cooling systems might lose you 1kg!

also, is it justthe Camshaft that gives you an extra 5bhp or a combination of the Carburettor and Camshaft?

sod it! I'm going on a diet.........:yum:

And I'm going to lose all my friends so I can chuck out the passenger seat too!!!!!

Actually, the rally and race boys use small flexible bags for windscreen washing...

I did some of this with the 750...

Parcel shelf
Radio
Speakers
Headrests
centre console
sound proofing (like there's much in a 750 anyway!)

I really enjoy driving it by myself.. It's like one of them 'sensory deprivation tanks' where there's nothing to distract you. Gives you time to think and ponder and wonder where there's left on earth that a Fiat panda's not put a tire track.....

The 4x4 carburetor is the same Weber 32 TLF with some minor jet changes. Most of the power is liberated by the camshaft.

Try the Punto 75 camshaft for even more horsepower. Straight swap into any smaller FIRE engine (y)
ALAN! GET ON EPER AND GET ME THAT EPER NUMBER FOR THE PUNTO 75 CAMSHAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Er - are you sure it's a straight swap??????

Looks like its 7723029 or 7723029 but they're £270!

Apparently so. The Cinq Sporting boys regularly put them into the 1108cc FIRE and also the 1242 60 engined FIRE's. I have a Punto 75SX sitting on my drive and I'm so tempted to pull out the camshaft and try it in my 999cc Fire...

There is one possible problem. I've had conflicting advice, but have been told that the 75 camshaft doesn't have the lobe to drive the mechanical fuel pump. Then again, I was also told it did  Either way, it's not too difficult to hook up an electric fuel pump, and you could do that by using a later SPI Panda fuel sender/ pump unit though I'm not sure if you need to change the tank as well.

I think it was Smokeme who told me that a 75 camshaft in a 999cc FIRE would produce nearly 60bhp. The original camshaft is soooooooooo restrictive, and the FIRE engine is strong enough to take far more power than standard. That's why they have no problem hitting 200K in their lowly state of tune!

Yes, you would need to change the whole tank as the SPI fuel sender/ pump unit is a larger diameter than the earlier sender (the hole in the floor is a different shape also ;) ). The alternative is to fit a stand alone electric fuel pump as Jim has to Sylvia(y) cheers Damon

Ok!
I;m not going to fanny around with electric fuel pumps and replacing fuel tanks!!

How can we confirm wether or not the camshaf t does have the lobe for driving the fuel pump?

a 4x4 camshaft( anyone got one?) is about 40 quid from parts gateway (used!)
What about the punto 60 camshaft? same problem?:(

The electric fuel pump is 'wee buns' (once you work out what your doing, and it's best not to try in Morocco... )

I'd stick in a 1242/1108 and go scare the Corsa crowd!:D

Have you tried the Uno section?

I was going to make a rally panda but i've got a 150mph BMW and a 125mph barchetta, why would I need a quick panda? so the Sisley is staying as is :p

There's no gain without pain, so if you want more power then you have to be prepared to sweat for it!

Dismantelling an engine and having extensive machining work done is more hassle than swapping over a petrol tank for one with an electric pump and then connecting two wires to the ignition ;)

Punto 60 camshaft is of little use as it's of a similar profile to the 999cc FIRE. Punto 60 is 60bhp from 1242cc, Punto 75 is 75 bhp from 1242cc (with a bit of extra help from MPI and larger ports/ valves), Punto 55 is 55bhp from 1108cc and Panda/ Uno 45 is 45bhp from 999cc. The 55 and 60 engines get most of their extra power from having a larger capacity rather than from the camshaft.

The man to ask is Oldschool as I'm sure he has already done similar conversions. I think I asked him about it and he said it DOES have the fuel pump lobe (I might have got it wrong though), but I also think I asked Smokeme who used to post on here and he said it DOESN'T have the lobe. Somewhere down the line I've got everything mixed up, but I DO know the 75 camshaft will fit ANY sohc FIRE engine. There was a grass track Uno for sale on Ebay a while back that had been 'tuned', and the seller told me he had fitted the 75 camshaft. And as I'm sure you all know it's a popular swap amongst the Cento crowd for liberating more power from an 1108cc or Punto 60 1242cc converted car.

The 75 head complete will also fit the 999cc FIRE, but you will need a custom intake manifold as the 75 manifold is not suitable for use with a carburetor. Plus the 75 head has different stud spacings for the inlet manifold so you can't use the carburetor manifold instead. :(

It CAN be done though! If I had the time I could pull out the camshaft from my Punto 75 to have a look but as I'm in the middle of a loft conversion I don't even had time to wash the car let alone pull it apart :bang:

Hope one of you can go through with the conversion (y)

right so the 75 head is a straight swap but will need a fuel pump attaching and probably a pair or set of 4 side draft carbs stuck onto it :)

where are those mikuni 38s i've got???
