ok! So I drove Flash back to Cornwall from Peterborough last night - i really tried to guage the difference in power (despite the gearbox differences).
5th Gear showed up the extra 5bhp I think!

Soooooo.... I've got a 4x4 camshaft coming to put into Red. An easy peasey extra 5bhp! No machining or engineering!:)

But then I started to get clever and think about upgrading the brakes by ading a Servo to Red. Easy job! Bolt the servo stright onto the bulk head along wiht the master cylinder.(y)
The other thing you have to do is replaace the inlet manifold for one with the outlet to power the servo. A 4x4 one or an Uno one will do it!!
so they're ordered........

And last night I found a Y10 in a scrapyard so I've baggsed the anti-roll bar!
Sooooooo .... we should go faster, get round the corners better and then stop better...... well, it SOUNDS like a plan doesn't it????

Hey, sounds like you'll put a bit more fire (pun intended!) into your Panda Sprox! Well done on finding the Y10 roll bar, but make sure you get ALL the brackets that go with it. Pandasport knows which ones you need, though I'm not sure if you need the track control arm brackets as per the Uno because those fitted with a roll bar had a different TCA brackets.

Also, don't forget it was always recommened that you ought to change the cam followers (buckets) when changing the camshaft. Not sure if this applies to the FIRE engine, but if at all possible get the buckets that came with the 4x4 cam and fit them in the SAME ORDER as they were in the previous engine. Cams and followers wear into each other over time, and mixing them up is supposed to cause accelerated wear as the parts effectively become mismatched.

Saying that, the FIRE is such a tough engine you might well get away with just swapping the camshaft. Maybe asking in the Cento section what they did might well raise some advice?

Whatever you do, don't forget to check the valve clearances after fitting the new(er) camshaft!

Good luck, and looking forward to hearing about how much better it makes driving a Panda :)

you'll need to set valve clearances, so going to need some shims to do that. swapping the buckets over alone won't mean it's bob on as every head is different eh.

i don't know for sure, but i reckon the 75 cam will not have drive for the mechanical fuel pump. why would it. it's from a punto, and there are no puntos that use mechanical fuel pumps. I have the 75 cam in my 1242 engine thats in my cinq, and don't remember seeing any bonus lobes.

http://tackycheese.net/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=5537 <-- my head, with 75 cam. i dont know what this extra lobe looks like, so you can 'ave a nosey instead.

you won't be able to see it on those pics if it is there... the petrol pump lobe is a circular ridge slightly offset that would be under the restraining piece next to the distributer.

ok got some pics

 :p

I know that some Fiat engines still had carburetors right up until 1999 (India for example), and I'm sure there were some 1242cc versions too. But you are right, not really much point in it having the lobe when most of the engines it was fitted to had fuel injection. But we might be lucky as the 75 engine came out in 1994 I think? It MIGHT just have it.

Even if it hasn't got the lobe for the mechanical fuel pump, it's not that hard to install an aftermarket electric pump if you don't fancy fitting an SPI Panda tank and pump.

Someone do this conversion please!

Can you tell on this pic if it got the petrol pump lobe?

This is the c+b 280 cam i have lying around from my cinq days, I wouldnt know what I am doing, but I am willing to offer my car and my tea making services to whoever does know what to do

its gotta be a lobe otherwise he has 7 valves!!
wouldnt work too well on cylinder 4 haha

i thought the slot across the bar powered the distributer... that thin rail presses the pump rod (phnarr!) against the diaphram in the fuel pump... i didn't think it touched the distributor at all...

I mean it's what the Oil seal sit's against. But after Gaz post we know it's not for the fuel pump.

Gaz just one question to confirm. You say it's round but does it sit exactly in the middle of the cam or is it slightly off to one side?

that bit at the end aint a lobe, it round :(
it only moves the rod a small amount... you'll really only be able to see it if you are looking for it from end along the length... you'll notice if you look hard it's not central if it's the fuel pump thing

It looks round. I noticed that there is an off centre line, what is all that about.

See pic , ignore my holy socks ;)

hard to ignore when they're the bit in focus... should have bought some socks not the cam (y)

Gaz as for the socks PMSL :D :D :D I'm sure my lad has a wardrobe full like that, when he stayed here they kept finding their way to my wardrobe

On topic, no that will not work a mechanical fuel pump. The off centre slot is for the dizzy so it can't be put on 180 deg out.
