I have been given a DVD Burner, I was only just getting used to doing music CD's, I was actually very good at making coasters too as a by-product of failed sessions :cry:

So, I am currently downloading an AVI file, from a site, when its downloaded, what do i do with it to get it onto a disc that will actually work in a normal doovde player?

I might need some software to do this, but have no idea what, so suggestions please, must be £free, plus the knowledge of what to do

Not even bought any blank discs yet

If you are downloading an .avi file, then best bet for software that is simple is ConvertXtoDVD.

It is not "free" though, unless you install it with a crack ;)

Just a few clicks, and it will convert it to DVD format, ready for watching on a normal DVD player.

Iv always prefered Nero version8, it does exactly wat it says on the tin, its free from virtually any torrent site , you can even d/load a 30 day trial version from nero.com or a 15 day trial version from download.com, its an excellent base to start burning your own dvds/cds .

ok, am understanding that.

After obtaining and installing the suggested program, how do I put the file onto the disc itself? its 551mb so no probls with size [I know that dvdr's are 4.7gb ?]

will the disc play in a normal dvd player then? [yeah, given the name of the prog I guess it will!]

Iv gotta agree with Stu D there , the time you faff around with converting you can d/load the full dvd , theres several good torrent sites to get stuff from.

I cant seem to be able to find the DVD file, just an AVI one, I am using default torrent sites that come with Utorrent, please PM me if you have other suggestions

Its called "the redcastle sessions" by Cara Dillon

Have just got the convertx prog, with crack, virus checked and all fine, seems easy enough to use, just gonna have to get some discs now, lucky theres a 24hr tesco a mile away

Tesco's own dvd+/- 25 for about a tenner i think , some burners dont get on with named brands, mine done like memorex or tdk , but my systems deff femail kos its fussy!! good luck.

update on this - have managed to d/l and burn a couple of films, they were in .avi format and I used the "convertxtodvd" to process and burn them, very easy to use.

The disks play lovely on my PC, and other PC's, but not the cheapo Tesco player in the bedroom, its skips and goes blocky which is highly irritating, do you think this is just the effect of a cheapo player? I assume the players in the PC are better components?

How fast did you burn the image? Slower the better, when I do burn a DVD, I tend to use 2x speed - takes longer, but never get any stuttters.

Then again, I don't burn many DVDs, only for archiving purposes...

Yeah, slower the better for DVD movies :)

You can use higher speeds for burning Data DVDs, as long as you verify afterwards. I have a habit of verifying in another burner, just to make sure.
