helo. after sorting the gearbox im now onto the next stage of keeping it on the road- the back brakes.
i have replaced the shoes, back plates and bearings a while ago.
the handy man at m.o,t garage told my wife that the brakes were awful and only just passed. the self adjusters have stopped adjusting. i cant see the way the adjusters work. i do have some gti rear discs that would save alot of faf but i dont think they will fit on 13".
any info would be great.

If the drums have a wear lip, either remove the lip or buy new drums.
Then lever the shoes out so they are even and ONLY JUST clear the drum.

The self adjusters are the circular round things in the shoes. They're very slightly eccentric.

what you can do is to buy new shoes, clean the wear lip off the drums, install the shoes and pre adjust them so that the shoes just fit by pushing them outwards.

Cento brakes are simplicity itself. You need to only clean off the wear lip, do the self adjusts, free off the handbrake actuating elbow and check that the slave cylindere postons move on each side of each piston. Do slacken off the handrake completely and disconnect it before you start or you'll be fighting it all the way.

Helo.thanks for the reply.how do the self adjusters work and how do you adjust them? Im struggling to see how they work, the drums look the same as any other.

Haha, sorry i meant the rear brakes as a whole.thanks,il hopefuly get chance wednesday. Thanks for your help.

dont buy internet shoes
the pads will be made of cheese and slip back after one use
these types of shoes were a pain 25 years ago on pandas and even then the way forwards was new quality shoes done up as fingers says

Tempted to put the punto turbo rear discs on ive got, just dont have the adapters or 14 inch wheels haha.
Il struggle on with the rear drums. Let you know how i get on.
