Technical Clutch cable adjustment

What’s the process for adjusting a newly fitted clutch cable.
In general terms if the clutch pedal cannot be lifted higher than normal position then you adjust clutch release arm to about 1/8th inch free play.
However if your clutch pedal can be lifted much higher , above the brake pedal then normally you adjust the clearance so that the brake and clutch pedal are the same height (so you can slide your foot across both pedals) .
With that type as the clutch wears down the pedal will start to rise up and unless adjusted it will get higher and then the clutch will start to slip even earlier.
