new PC build

well all my lovely cooling is wasted since my mobo is a dick for OCing

anyway,moving on.its graphics card time
so what i need.
the ability to stream HD video over HDMI to a 50" screen
audio is handled by a seperate amp/speakers,so audio quality is an issue. I see some cards can out put dolby HD and the like as bitstream
I will be adding Bluray to the PC,so i want to be able to smoothly play the BR discs over HDMI to the same screen
gaming isnt much of an issue,on the PC i generally play RTS type games
I may bung on an FPS every now and then so its always nice to be able to run them at a respectable setting
i dont want a vax running in the pc case, but the case already has 4 fans fitted,so its no silent HTPC

I have little clue on whats what on GFX cards, all names and numbers to me

edit: just to add. right now i can run XBMC on the plasma display, using the onboard intel G41 gfx
however the video isnt as smooth as it should be

i have just got a gigabyte super overclock 460 gtx its got 2 dvi outs and a mini hdmi (u get the mini hdmi to hdmi cable with it) it was £160 seems the best mid range card. or there is the nvidia 560ti although i dont know much about these the best nvidia at the moment is the 580 gtx but they are about £350+. can you tell i like nvidia. check websites like bit-tech.net there is some good advice on there.

another thing to watch is the amps on your 12v lines and how many pci-e connectors the psu has my gfx card requires 2

I would think most graphics cards (other than the most bargain basement onese) today would be able to do 1080p? Obviously look for one that's passively cooled, as long as you've got a few fans in the case then cooling won't be an issue.
