My exhaust is blowing through a knackered flex joint, so I've picked up a bolt-in replacement with paste to change it. How much of a faff is it going to be? Me and a mate have got axle stands to support the car and enclosed goggles to keep crap from falling in my eyes. Due to being poverty-stricken, taking it to a garage is not an option.

Hi :)

It it 3 bolt flat flanges..BOTH SIDES ?

OR a slide-over tube fit..??

The bolt.ups should be ok

Have you got an angle grinder?
They save lots of grief with 'slide.on' exhaust parts ;)

It's solid pipe one side and a slide on fitting the other. I'll keep you posted and may be able to post pics once we're done.

SOLID.. ?

That'll cut down on emissions.. :p

You mean its Tube either side of the flexi

But 1 end is Male.. going to rear of car..

Other end Female .. and 'slit' to pass over original engine / manicat outlet ?

Mine lasted the 15 years that I owned it.. but did 4 or 5 rear silencers

My jtd estate was a 3 bolt flange.. not too bad

Have fun..!!

Pics would be good.. thanks :)

I have hade two fail.

on the 1.1 and 1.2 2 wheel drive there's no box in the middle section. Its not worth cutting and joining

about twenty pound if you shop around for the whole section. Exact price is in a thread by me on here somewhere

downstream of the O2 sensors its okay to use silicon sealant. I found a small tube in a pond shop

worth getting new clamps if they are in the same state as mine. Some come with new clamps included.

front clamp is worth putting on upside down. Nuts at the top. Gives more clearance on rough ground.

Yeah, that's what I meant, the female end towards the manicat. I wish it was bolted flanges, they're so much easier to deal with lol.

Did a flexi on my daily a couple of years ago. I suspect you will be cutting off the old one in situ. Perhaps an obvious tip, be careful & don't cut off too much. I actually cut through the flexi itself & it was easy to trim off with the grinder both bare ends to fit the new one. Use a thin cutting disc, far easier to use. My flexi had larger ends & I cut slits, plenty paste & tighten up alternatively. The most difficult part was holding up my arms to do the job, I'm in my 60's. I had ear defenders & goggles, but the sparks went everywhere. I had an old piece of carpet to lie on, but after I had to get rid of it, as it had wee bits of the stainless steel old flexi like needles, sharp as hell.

Best of luck, come back & tell us how you got on. (y)

Well, so far the score is Fiasco FC: 1, Success United: 0. When I measured the end of the exhaust to order the new joint, I was completely unaware that the rest of the pipe is slightly larger. The exhaust is in parts with the car up on blocks. I'm not driving anywhere for a couple of days now, until the proper part turns up. Damn.

Full system. I put one of these on Mrs Dave's car last year. and everything looks fine. The dont grit blast the welds before painting so run it for a month or so. Then paint all welds and any bare steel with copper grease as it stops the welds corroding out.

sounds expensive heres what I payed

Back box £19.95 + VAT from CES
Centre pipe £26 inc from General Traffic
Exhaust manifold gasket £5.99 inc from Euro Car Parts.

Also need some gasket seal. I used some silicone seal from the pound shop.

The £26 included an extra clamp that wasn't included where as the back box came with a new clamp

exhaust gasket was only needed as the old exhaust was welded to the CAT

Nothing you cannot rectify.. :)
