Most Un-reliable car ever?

1997 VW Polo. My uncle one (bought it brand new) and there was always something wrong with it - most of the time related to electrics. Luckily for him it was badly bashed (twice) this summer and its now under the catagory of 'Total Loss' :D

never had an unreliable car at all, worst car in my family was a mk3 golf gti my sis used to own, cost her £4,500 in 2 years........

In my experience I would have to say either every Ford or every red car. I know neither make sense, but I won't be having either again, if I can help it. Overall I would say the least reliable car ever built was the Triumph TR7.

Cant comment on fords, never had one, but regarding red cars, years ago (in 1993) had a red 1990 cavalier 2.0cdi, bought it with 84k miles at auction, , p/xed it 1998 with 204 k miles on it for a cav v6 cdx (which i wish i still had). In 120 k miles, the only things (apart from consumables such as cambelts, pads, oil/filters etc) I had to replace were
1) headlight lens, £8 new, 15 mins work
2) handbrake cable £15, 1 hrs work
3) battery, £40 , 10 mins
4) alternator, £60ish, 1 hr
5) half an exhaust, £80 at fast fit centre

not a lot for 5 years and 120k miles is it, and the car never once left me stranded. Not the most exciting car, but was great for long journeys, would do 40 mpg sitting at 85mph, and would go off the clock when wound up

My omega and everyone elses(sooo glad i sold it) 80% of them have had problems, plus they (usually) are rusty...:(

Ford escort 1.8 TD - my mates one was always breaking (terminal now, and its only p reg) plus rust, again....:(

all of the middle-class mercs made from 1994 to 2004 are crap, from what ive heard.
my father's mate has had new merc family cars for years (until now), and they ALL have had major problems. hehheh he now drives a 1991 honda and absolutely loves the fact that it doesnt break down :D

I bought an "older" 205 for my then Missus, it regularily had the gearstick disconnect from the linkage. Even with a new linkage it did the same.
It also leaked water into the boot another Pug atribute!!!!!!!

The most unreliable car from personal experience for me is a 1988 Volvo 240 GL, loads of problems with the fuel injection, the fuel pump, the fuel pump relay, the heater blower didnt work, both windscreens leaked, the rear suspension was lethal on anything bumpy/damp/twisty, it broke down constantly, froze me to death, rusted like anything, all the electrics got damp and so the wipers were very slow and the lights dim.

Its just a truly hopeless piece of design, no room in the back at all, small boot, small fuel tank and whats more, this is a car designed for snowy climates and yet it had the most over servoed, most liable to lock all round discs ive ever used, I hated it soooo much I used to scrape it down my garage wall on purpose when I got home. I lost count of the number of times I was stuck being towed behind my dads Cadillac!

Volvos, reliable?? Not in my experience, the 2nd least reliable was a 940 SE Turbo by the way!

The 2 most unreliable cars I have owned were both Rover 820 Turbo vitesses. I bought the second one as I thought the first one being bad was just bad luck. How wrong I was..

I had gearbox issues, head gasket issues, clutch issues, crank sensor failures, electric windows which didnt work, dodgy suspension, dodgy immobilisers, burst expension tanks, rust, dodgy air con... As well as a few other issues I have probably forgotten.

A clocked Ford Cortina Estate :D or any clocked car, or even worse a clocked Cat-C write off.

we still have a clocked toyota lucida Jap import (previa derivant)
2 months after we got it, the engine blew a HG, and when the engine was taken out, we discovered that the piston rings, and the bores were worn out, and the Head was cracked beyond repair
new engine sorted it, though, its a quite good car now :)

oh, and its the biggest pain in the arse to work on, cos its mid-engined 4wd :)D) and the engine sits right beneath the seats:bang:

Citroen Saxos by a looooong street! (n)

Fiat GrandePunto 1.3 Multijet 75bhp variant. Had more problems with this car in 12 months than I had with any other car I have ever owned all put together!

MK3 Golf GTi 2L 8V, THE most unreliable car I have ever known. It wasn't owned by me but my mate, and the amount of things that failed on it were a joke, clutch release arm snapped, clutch peddle snapped, MAF failed, ECU failed, 3 out of four callipers seized one when he was driving along and slowing down, then when going to pull away again the left rear wheel was locked solid, the number plate feel off the tailgate because it had rusted that badly, the plastic OE side skirts hide a host of rust, the electric windows failed, the exhaust manifold blew, the lock on glove box stuck shut, so had to be broken open, it burned oil, returned according to computer less than 22mpg, a rear spring snapped??? I am sure there was more as it became the running joke amongst my friends and I as to what was going to break next.

This is going back a few years but when he bought it, it was one owner from new K reg so about 5 years old when he bought it, FVWSH 75K on the clock, he ended up keeping it 4 years as every time an MOT came up he spent hundreds of pounds on it, the worst being £800! and felt he had to keep it to justify the spending and original purchase price of some £5.5K.

It ended up dead in a field somewhere near Glasgow...........
