Most Un-reliable car ever?

my dads old x reg (1981ish?) 1.6 ford escort ghia. probably the one of the worst cars going. though it did look good with the rubber spoiler and spotlights!! the car wouldn't go anywhere when needed. headgasket replacements put the rover k series to shame. rust everywhere, holes in the floor under the carpets. the carburettor didn't really work and had to be revved all the time. wasn't especially quick despite the 1.6. interior was brown, all brown. smelt of oil.

we had a 1990 rover 214 after that, it was lovely in comparison! quicker, quieter more comfortable and interior wasn't too bad either. got written off by some **** of a kid in a mini going into the back of it, then claiming he hadn't so took ages to get the insurance money. though that had to have a new headgasket not long after getting it, though that's what you get for buying a car with a tow bar. i think apart from that it was fine!!

1999 vauxhall vafira cost £3000 for car and spent £1500 on repairs in less than 6 months. It had a new wiper motor and wiper linkage, new parts on exhaust something to do with baffles, new pads and discs, new alternator, new starter motor and new battery.

I would say most unreliable would either be a jeep cherokee (mate had one) rover 25 (brother had one, broke down constantly and i also had a bad experience with it:(:() . The jeep he had was probably in service once every 2 months as theres always a problem with either the suspension or the gear box.

Late 80's Fiat Croma Turbo ie. Two and a half years of ownership and spent 8 months of that at the dealer, when it broke down at midnight on a Friday in the Dartford tunnel that was the last straw it was traded in the following Monday.

Best bit was it was registed as a Taxi in Bradford after i got rid, I don't know how the guy could possibly have ever made and money with it only working every other day on a good week.

Must admit, owning a Citroen AX GT put me off French cars for life!!!

To be fair, I shouldn't tar all French cars with the same brush just because of one I owned. It WAS built to a lower standard then a Wendy House though :p

OMG the Citroen AX, the worst car I have ever driven. Spent £300 to get it through its MOT, less than 2 weeks later the clutch breaks...that was just the final straw on so many things to go wrong with this car. Never will I buy a French car again! :bang:

I swear my rover 214 si on a p plate is the most unreliable car EVER!!!! lol!!! in less thn a year of owning it here is the list of things i had done to it....:

2 Batteries
Alternator
Gearbox
Clutch
Clutch slave cyclinder
Head Gasket
4 new tyres (3 on the same wheel due to suspension problem)
Rear wishbone and suspension bushes
Head gasket blew again so new engine....
....new engine seized after 2000 miles....
engine replaced so i got rid before i wasted anymore money on it.
The worst thing about it was that it used to overheat near enough every day....but ONLY when i was on my way home frm work....AT NIGHT!!!!! Lol!

From personal experience, the wifes old Mk5 Escort was an absolute dog - anything below 5 degrees or slighty damp and thing would not move.

My dad's old Alfa 155 V6 was an fantasic drive when it felt like working.

According to Warranty Direct, 47% of claims they handled for Jeeps were related to suspension. Not bad for a brand that claims to be rough and tough and able to deal with off road driving. On the other hand, maybe British roads are rougher than the Baja desert.

Most unreliable car I've had so far was my Citroen BX, after I bought it I drove to petrol station, filled it up and returned to find it stood in huge pool of petrol!! I then got halfway home and the exhaust fell off.....
After a few weeks a hydraulic pipe burst overnight so I had an unusable car and big green puddle. Shortly after that it broke down at morning rush hour, turning off and blocked both lanes. It then went through a year of reliabilty until the hydraulic pump broke overnight so I couldn't get it up anymore!

My 1997 VW Sharan 2.8 VR6. Over the course of 60,000 miles I had:- Timing chain guides cracked (simply remove gearbox to change), auto gearbox final drive bearing failure, all four driveshaft joints, both lower wishbones, both bottom balljoints, both front strut top bearings, one set of shock absorbers, two sets of front discs, set of rear discs, heater matrix, aircon evaporator, water ingress, crumbling coolant t-pieces, rust on the tailgate and rear wheelarches, MAF sensor, head gasket, plug leads and so on. If everything in life etc... The two cars previous to that were Citroen XMs, which were trouble-free by comparison. I will never buy a VW again if I can help it!

My 1990 Lancia Delta HF Turbo i.e. I had to get a new gearbox, clutch, drivers front seat due to excessive wear, all the top mounts for each suspension struts as all had broken away. All door handles had broken, shocks as well as 4 new tyres (tyres I replaced as I had serious concerns for everything rubber on the car at this point!)

The thing would break as soon as you looked at it. Mind you it had a gem of an engine even if the gearbox was poor.

I saved for 1 year to get it, had it 3 months and got rid due to it being so unreliable. Some of this could of been down to a previous owner (gearbox definately) but the rest was dissapointing. On a brighter note it only nearly killed me once when I was cornering and the rear left strut fell away and span the car. At least I only had a scuba diving cylinder and my scuba gear in the car so no worry there then with the compressed air in that!!!
