Punto (Mk1) Molly II - Punto GT3.

Introduction

Well sure many of you know this car or at least saw it for sale.

Purchased from Alex22 at the weekend to add to my collection. She is standard bar aftermarket discs & pads and a baileys dump valve. Even has an original GT exhaust, think its the first one i ever seen lol.

Whats my plans I hear you ask?
1. Fit correct widemouth front bumper (supplied by Alex with the car)
2. Have wheels refurbed, they look ok but quite a bit of kerbing on the rims
3. Fit some spacers, love the standard wheels but they far to far under the arches
4. Clean and tidy up the engine bay
5. Exterior respray in the original colour, paint is good and there is hardly any dents/dinks but the bonnet and roof in particular look a bit tired.
6. Brand new badges, front and rear

Here is some pictures, all off my phone so not great - I will add more pictures to the thread when i have better ones ;)

Re: Molly II - Punto GT3

Don't get me wrong, i love midnight blue - its just i want it to stand out a bit but without doing loads of stuff to the exterior - so a stock fiat paint you never could get on the mk1 is how i arrived at sprint blue.. Not saying there isn't one but i haven't seen a mk1 in sprint blue yet.

Re: Molly II - Punto GT3

keep the midnight blue, stick some anthrecite 20vt coupe alloys on and it'll look spot on! also you might be able to find another door for around 20quid rather than paying for painting and repairing the original. although delocked and colour coded handles would look great too

Re: Molly II - Punto GT3

know what you mean blue, tipo 16v alloys look great too like the gt rim but bigger. like rocking horse **** to find now though

Re: Molly II - Punto GT3

ohh thats how the standard ehaust is ment to be :| mines got a 1.2 one on then! :|

Re: Molly II - Punto GT3

well no updates really other than she is still on the road and running ok. Here's a few recent pictures.

My plans have changed a little as I have come to the conclusion I have far too many cars and i must get back to a normal number (that being 1 or 2 cars).

So as many will know already, i have sold my cinq to JustAndy. Will be selling the Stilo MW soon as well - it just needs a little bit of a service and few little bits and bobs putting right. And then next up on the list will be my GT.

As said in previous posts, i want some bits off it for the seicento, so it will become oem+ as it were. And i really want to give it new belts and proper good service as it came with patchy history file. I'm clearly gonna make quite big loss on this car but hey - i only really bought it to save it from a chav in the first place.

Also think the manifold is cracked so will whip it off and have a look, it drives fine still but there is a leak somewhere over 0.4-0.6 bar which i can't find and so can only assume its the manifold. Symptoms are a tappy noise when you gently touch the go pedal at idle, when you rev the car it takes longer than normal for the engine speed to go back down, hunting a bit on startup and this weird fluttery air noise on boost. I think all of these would be symptoms of a cracked exhaust manifold, opinions?? pretty sure i have got all the old vac hoses changed now but theres probably a couple of hard to get to ones i have missed which also need checking.

Looking good :) Specially next to leighJet (hope that works) abarth bravo :)

Glad your keeping the GT3, gonna start getting rarer and rarer as a classic "boyracer" car. Old cars never lose value ;)

As for the Mani, I remember leak testing a custom manifold with a mate once, we couldnt see it or feel it, so we took it off and plugged the ends with rubber bungs, submerged it in water and watched for the air escaping.

Hope this helps :D

Re: Molly II - Punto GT3

Well keeping Molly is back on the cards now.. My dad said if i sell his car he would put the GT in his name and insure it - he lives overseas but i have his car outside my house for when he is in the UK. So long as it doesn't cost more than his current insurance policy which i doubt - will get some quotes soon.

So if anyone wants to buy a Merc CLK send me a PM ;)
