Panda (Classic) LVJ the scrap yard 4x4

Introduction

Ok, for those who don't know this is my latest acquisition.

I didn't really expect to win the ebay auction so I didn't view it first.

This will either be amazing or a lesson in how not to buy a car

Still trying to work out how to collect it without it being silly money, If I can get a car trailer for a day my brother has offered to help with his isuzu pickup.

Open to other offers though as he notoriously changes his mind if he gets a better offer for his time (like the pub being open ).
I have one (well two) jobs for you if you care to take the challenge....

I was looking at the door you repaired and left @ Verns yesterday (can you guess where this is heading?) .....

Panda Express the doors to me and I'll do them. It will cost you only merciless ribbing for all of time and a beer when I bump into you again.(y)

excellent (y)
will be easy enough to get them to Vern's or even to your door when I come down again to get the seats as long as you don't live near Brighton

panda panda panda, I can't believe you went down to the Panda Sanctuary on Thursday I was there yesterday! Could have taken anything down you needed to take.

If you need any help tinkering on the Panda give me a shout, I'll be more than happy to help and not all to far away at the moment!

Thanks, It's more a question of me needing to take myself down there really and all I need is a little excuse/reason ;)

There will be plenty of tinkering on the cantankerous LVJ usually after I've tried to make improvements

Do you have a welder.......:p

I am well overdue a visit to panda HQ, might need to sort that out in the summer...

This is a very kind offer, John I think it would be an ideal oportunity to start the welding prep and maybe do some filling? Freebo are you pretty good with body work stuff?

Not too sure, haven't really done any body works stuff before but happy to have a go and learn.

I take it it's a FIRE engine? Worked on them quite a bit in the past.

Excellent well the engine isn't running at the moment as it got a bit damp so that could be done, the rocker cover gasket needs changing and it needs a good service. Just depends what John wants to get done :)

Yes it's a FIRE - good old 999cc.

Looks like this is a good one to learn on! Not being funny but there's lots to do & John isn't looking for concours, so being a first class restorer isn't necessary. Pity it's so far away - I've never done more than filler bodges in the past & wouldn't have minded learning from someone like Andy, on something that I wasn't going to ruin!! :)

John,
1) for service consumables items I can reccomend www.rockauto.co.uk - best prices and service I ever had. Dont let put you off if some cost are in $, they do base in UK.

2) as a part of welding preperation you could do the bulk of the dirty job, you need couple item for that:

- 125mm grinder ( with adjustable speed - preffered),
- number of wirecup brushes, flap discs 60/80 grid
- proper face guard ( i.e. Venitex BALBI2 )
- ears protection,

Work with the wire cup brush arround any of the rusted area to have 100% sure how far the rust is, finnish wire brushing when solid panel visible. Ude the flap discs for hard to reach areas possibly to smooth the rust hole edges.

If this work will be already done it will be much easier/ less hassle for the person doing the welding ( don't point on me, yet). What's your target to get it back on road?

Regards
J

Thanks guy's - don't worry Gavin, I'll save something for you to do (y)
kolza Ok will go shopping for these items and start on the welding prep :)
Freebo Come over and help with the engine etc will keep me motivated and out of trouble.
andy4x4 if you want to order the bits needed let me know what the total is and I'll paypal it to you.

Timescale really is down to me getting the prep done without killing it completely then welding .

Stripping everything off that needs painting/rust proofing, new parts needed fitting and reassembly.

I can do some of the prep work as it's what I did before undersealing Fizzle.

Has anyone done the two chairs to support a Panda on it's side to make it possible for me to get underneath? I have several chairs but not a clue how to do it - suppose it will need at least two of us to that one.
