Hi. Last few days the car is accelerating/picking up slowly in first and sometimes second gear. Other times it seems okay. Could this be the MAF sensor that is playing up i wonder ? If so whats it like to replace ? Cheers in advance

Could be sooted up turbo vanes or partially blocked egr. I put a bottle of Wynns turbo cleaner in my tank a few weeks ago as well as spraying a can of Wynns cleaner directly into the turbo, which worked a treat and the car is running much better.

Thanks Tubthumper. My DPF light was on yesterday, which it has done once before so i took it down the motorway for around 5 miles and the light went out. Wondered whether that was partly the issue but the slow pick up issue on acceleration still remains. Will try the Turbo Cleaner first before taking her in to my garage.

Put some Turbo and DPF cleaner in the tank yesterday but so far car still has no power. Read somewhere on here about disconnecting the MAS airflow sensor, which i did but negligable if any difference noted. Can't get the car in my garage until Wednesday next week for testing. Wondered if it could possibly be an EGR problem ?

Well, i didn't get to the rest of the week. Limped in work this morning a cut out before i had parked up properly. Came out at 9am and blow me, she started up. Took it to my garage but car cut out again round the corner. Some smoke before it cut out. Hoping it's an EGR problem and nothing too serious.

My first thought was egr valve sticking open - causing inlet air from turbo to bypass engine and go straight into exhaust=low boost /No boost. It is Worth checking. This fault doesn't always throw a code.

Second thought use mes or similar to read fuel rail pressure actual vs desired , looking for a discrepancy between the readings . Plus read what mes reads the codes as.

Maf sensor near air filter , yes if it is faulty unplugging will restore power but will set a fault code/engine light.

Fuel filter clogged.
5 miles appears very short for a dpf regeneration - safe side = 15 miles.
Read dpf status with mes etc

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, went 5miles down the motorway, DPF light went out. I actually travelled 5 miles back so around 10 miles in total. Just waiting on my mechanic for confirmation of fault whatever it is.

Okay. Update. Recieved car today with a new EGR fitted. Garage said faults now cleared but DPF fault showing up. Asked to give the car a run to try and clear the issue but started her up before leaving the garage and no DPF light showing but engine control fault now showing up on dash ! On top of that if feels like car is in limp mode when driving. This reminds me when i had to have the fuel injection system replaced under warranty in the first 10 months of the cars life from new. I expected the car to run fine again after the EGR was replaced . Any reason for the engine control coming on ? Could it be the DPF requires a regen ? Will taking the car for a run clear the DPF Fault and subsequently the engine control fault issue ? Thanks in advance

The garage should not have let you leave with engine light on.
If the mil is on then there is a reason which can be read with scan tool/ fault code reader.

Speak to the garage, tell them light was on when you collected car, take it back to garage.

Check U tube before administering sprays so you do this correctly. Proper diagnostics may cost but will surely save cost in the end with this sort of fault. I would find and clean the MAF. Limp home will yield a top speed of c 40mph if you are lucky and performance will be uniformly flat. Are you sure its not cold weather fuel waxing. I have only ever had this once in decades of driving diesels. Do you know what codes are showing now? Was it a Fiat specialist that did the work?

An update. Okay the car was taken for a regen but the guy couldn't get into the system to carry this out apparently. I picked the car up as i was told the ECU light was now out and to give it a motorway run to recheck. Hadn't even got home from the garage and the DPF light came on. Well, less than a mile down the motorway and the DPF light went out but the ECU light came back on again !! Strange thing there is no power loss but the light is staying when starting up ! Could the ECU light just need resetting now the power is okay ? Does anyone think i may need to replace the DPF ? At my wits end now. Need this sorting asap.

Hi

So.. what kind of garage is it ?

You didnt answer before .

1, their diagnostic SKILLS seem poor

2 their Diagnostic KIT seems poor

Vague codes given.. then replacing a component that made no difference

Then CANNOT get vehicle to perform a Regen while plugged in

DPF is expensive..

You can but a LOT of sprays..etc for £60 ;-)

Please recap how all this started,

Miles on engine .miles since last Service

Frequency of Regens.. could be a good indicator

From what you have written this week about 'test runs' I wonder if it hoes far enough for effective regens on a weekly basis
