I think he is in the air as we speak (probably trying to remove an engine from the Jumbo for his b! :D)

I have to get my exhaust sorted this year, quite fancy going for a longlife system..........watch this space.

Back is still playing up but not as bad as it has been, I am walking again (although not too far) but am still in mucho pain - hopefully things will get better over the next few weeks. Just got my 'emergency' appointment for a spinal consultant for the 11th July, god knows how long it would have been if it were not considered an emergency!

Just to top things off the company decided to withdraw their offer of 3 days per week for 6 months as they have run out of money - next Wednesday is my last working day - then its time to look for work (again)..........assuming I can walk that is!

Hi KC & LRB (y)
Hope things pick up 4 U Lee and the back pain eases off a bit soon.

I am still stuck in Tokyo but its now Friday 7:30 am and my flight home is tomorrow morning at 11:00am TT so counting the mins.

I have not had a chance to even pick up the manifold gaskets yet, let alone fit the manifold  I do have five days off soon so will crack on with the B and fingers crossed get the radiator and manifold done then.

Let you know how it goes.

Doc -San :)

LRB, really sorry about that - it's pretty tough. Your GP should be able to at least keep the pain under control while you wait for the appointment. I take it you're taking pain killers? If you're in that much agony go back!

My other love, and when not toying with the B.

Been looking at oil catch tanks.
Seen this one on ebay.

What do you guys make of it.

I think that is the same as the one Gavin fitted, it will do the job so go for it! While you are at it get yourself an oil cooler........... (y)

Thanks SB

I am going to give them a call today, I am loaded up with pain killers but hate taking them. I have degenerative disc disease (quite badly - as of 3 years ago 5 discs in the lower back had packed up), so it would be easy to live on tablets but I save them for bad episodes - of which this is defo 1!!!

Kiry, that is one BIG puppy - you wait until she grows into those paws!!

mildy off-topic:
because i've got a little army-souvenir, i'll throw in my 2 eurocents worth:

We know there are several types of pain related to a bad back: the grinding glass, the numb limbs, etc which are mostly an indication of trapped and inflammed nerves and the pulling, sheering and knife-stabs which are mostly muscle related. Although it is not always clear to tell them appart becuz most of the muscle pains are a result of "compensating" your stance and actions. One has the tendency to use muscles for tasks they are not really suited for in order to avoid using those that "pull" on the spine/discs.

Of course, all bad-back people get muscle excercises to "strenghten the muscles encapsulating the spine", but it aint that easy is it? Invariably one gets out of shape (i mean out of an athletic shape, a pear shape seems to come automaticly ) and into a vicious circle as we tend to go to easy on ourselves, forget to do the exercises, avoid certain actions (eg lifting heavy cupboards that the wife wants moved) and if we do, we "watch our back" and compensate our stance thereby straining other muscles.

Anyways, i have found that most of my anoying back problems are muscle pains from compensating. These are "secondary" and last a lot longer. The "primary" pain is when the lightning shoots thru the spine and the leg goes numb.. at that point i know i have strained the shafted disks and that i am in for a couple of days of grinding glass. Sometimes i manage to "reset the disk" fairly fast and pain is limited to a couple of days. Sometimes it takes longer and then i am in for several weeks of pain mostly of the "secondary" type.

And to get to the point:
i have found that taking muscle relaxants and taking it easy for a week helps a lot. It might seem strange to use muscle relaxants, as they also relax the muscles encapsulating your spine, but lets face it : the disks are shafted anyways and there is nothing except bolting 5 or 7 of them together that can be done about it. So better take it easy, relax, do not strain that part of the back and take the muscle relaxants till the pain is (almost) gone. Then start doing the exercises for your back again.

Diazepan DOES work very well for backpains.
Although it is very related to valium and given a lot as an anti-depressivum and anti-anxiety, AND thus addictive, it does work. Just dont get used to it. Only to be prescribed when you are facing limping or crawling around the house. However, if you have reached and have gone beyond that point i would suggest considering getting knocked out by sister morphine in a hospital bunk.

As for a positive note:
What also seems to work is prozak: you are still in pain, but you dont care anymore :)

And when suffering backproblems and pains for nearly 20 years daily, one develops an amazingly high treshold and resistance. There are days when you could cut off my hand without me even noticing. And that is without using painkillers.
:(

on-topic: the B is one of those few cars that has a "good" seat (y), i can drive for hours without having a backpain increase.
On a lot of other cars it took me weeks of minute seat and steeringwheel adjustments to achieve that, if at all.

That's a good point. For one of my previous jobs I used to get a different hire car every week and have to drive all over the UK. Often I would get a bad back after a few hours (nothing compared to what you guys suffer thank god ) but I've never had a bad back in the B's seat, just realised.

Right.!

I took the plunge and ordered the supersprint manifold early this morning.

What a surprise to find it had been delivered by 6pm the very same day. :D

I also went down to rat sport in plumstead and purchased a 13row oil cooler and one of their stainless steel catch tanks. :D:D

:yum::yum::yum: i like

(y)(y)

i wonder where to fit an oilcooler, there is not a lot of space with the airco and the twin fans and such
A supersprint back box is on order, will be fitted next week or the week thereafter :) As for the manifold.. that will have to wait a few weeks.

In any case show us the pix and tell us about the result (y) good going(y)

OOOH! NICE:D HAVE spoilt myself lately. NOT THAT BAD WITHOUT THE MISSES AFTER ALL.

Cant wait to fit this. Just need to get some new gaskets and hope to fit very soon. :D:D

The oil cooler is most probally going to be sited just in front of water rad, seem to have loads of space there. I do still need to get hold of adapter plate and some hosing for this though.

GSR Induction kit is planned for next week also.

Kiry, looking good fella - I am getting left behind here!

Let me know when you go to see Peter, I should be around any day but Tuesday and Wednesday next week! (y)

Nice work KC3 !!! Catching me up fast!! :D(y) The oil cooler helps loads keeping the engine temp down.

I think you wil have your maniofld fitted before mine as I dont have any free time until next weekend. Let us know what its like if you get it fitted before then m8.

For me next on the list is a sports CAT to finish the exhaust and then a set of fast road cams to make the most of that expensive but great quality exhaust and intake system.
