Panda (Classic) John Dragon Man's 4x4 Sisley

Introduction

Hello!

Well, I have been waiting a long time to do this!

Introducing (Drum roll please!).....

Edit: about half way through the time it took me to get the car on the road it found the name Talon. So everyone Meet:
Talon. My Fiat Panda 4x4 Sisley:

Great Looking car.. As i am sure you all agree!

It has its Good points:

No Horrid noises in any gear and the 4x4 system works and sounds brilliant! Its a Sisley! And it came with some nice extras such as the light grill covers.

and also nice low mileage.

And it has its bad points... Lots of bad points:

Mid body rust, This is the worst on the drivers side (in the UK) front wing:

The Doors are Rusty.. Ok, i did expect this as it seems to be a common thing on most Fiats over 10-15 years old:

And the other Door, Not as bad.. I may be able to save this side!

"Phantom Electronics" the electronics do what they want to do, when they want to do it. No Switches necessary!

Also the Fuse box now lives here :( That means that a flap has been cut in the pocket :(

The Exhaust is very broken, in multiple parts. even the down pipe!
attachment.php

Lastly and by far the worst, Under body rust. Now its not as bad as it could be. The rear sills on both sides have a small 1 - 2 inch hole in them. No biggy.
I have still yet to remove all the plastic wheel arch liners and have a proper look.
Here's a picture from the front drivers side wheel arch, its only a skin so a easy repair:

A bit of work needs doing to the brakes, pads i think. The fluid needs changing and the drivers side front brake pipe is corroded so i will replace that.

Also the engine needs a good cleaning up, a full on service replacing the water pump, cam belt, tensioner pulley, distributor cap and rotor arm, filters, oil, radiator, coolant and starter motor.

I also need a few things like a locking filler cap, the little clips that hold the air box together, a new boot gas strut and a non damaged back bumper.

Its the car I have always wanted right from when I was a young lad. So you can imagine how I was when I won it on eBay for a grand total of £547. Getting it from Wales To my home town of Derby Cost me £135.

With some love, care and late nights I reckon I can turn it into a cracking motor!

Oh and stay tuned as I will be keeping a Video Log of what I will be doing to the car on Youtube!

This is the video i took just as the car transporter left from delivering it:

I am so very proud to be the owner of a Fiat Panda 4x4 Sisley!

:D:D:D

Edit: this is how Talon looks now:

:eek::cool::cool::cool::yum:

Since then Talon has gained more lights, and now has some blue rust free Seat Marbella doors. I had also converted him to Fuel injection, however the parts i used were old and worn so now it is back on Carburettor.

This thread has its ups and downs but through the years Talon and myself have pulled through.

When you are done reading this thread, be sure to check out the little red scrap yard rescued Seat Marbella thread and also Project Fallout!

Peace all and enjoy the thread, videos and pictures!
Talon now has brakes that work so well it is scarey!

if you suspect that your master cylinder is out, buy one from here:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brakes-Master-Cylinder-Fiat-Regata-Uno-Lancia-Y10-FBM4055-/160967829974?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item257a6e29d6&clk_rvr_id=482984129256

it is an exact match to the one that comes off a servo assisted panda 4x4. well worth £8.47 (Even has free postage!!!!!!!!)

VmanC, maybe a good idea to stock a few... for the price they are welllll worth it.

Hi John,

What is the difference with all the master cylinders? I bought an LM70030 which was listed for the Panda - looks the same as this one, but this seller doesn't reckon the LM70030 fits a Panda?

I got the other one for the Super in case that's the cause if its brake issues (issue being it has no brakes but still at MOT standard! ).

I'll get one of these as a Sisley spare if it fits.

Is it just the position of the holes (matron) which matters or how do you check what's right??

Desipte Fizzle being stroppy you must miss driving him.
Twizzle surely doesn't give you that same feeling when you go for a drive?

When you are angry, disappointed and pee'd off with someone you don't miss them do you (even when you caused the problems to start with)?

Drove to Huddersfield and back it was quiet, air conditioned, sat high and comfortably listening to an ipod through a decent stereo with bass tones.
I'd forgotten driving could be so easy
.

But where is the fun in easy

I prefer to be rattled about, with a hand on the radio to stop it rattling as I hit another pot hole, using my knee to steer whilst I wind the window down because a twig has just flown through my air vent and I need to dispose of it. All whilst desperately trying maintain my momentum going up a hill.

cheekylittlescamp it tool me about 20 mins to swap and bleed new fluid through all the lines. after i also flushed and changed the brake fluid in the marbella. (that has really sharp brakes! wish i had them on talon!)

Palio to be honest, i do not know. this was a stab in the dark that seemed to have paid off, first time for everything eh?
all i can say is that putting the 2 parts next to each other resembles a perfect matching part. right down to the casting marks/burs.
the only difference is that the new one does not have FIAT stamped on the side.

i had a drive of my mums new DS3.. man i did not like it.. it was so "easy" to drive it made it quite hard to drive. with talon i like and enjoy the fact you need a bit of effort to drive him, lets you know exactly whats going on and what you have to do next. with the DS3, the clutch is on or off, the brakes are on or off, and the steering feels like it is not connected to anything. first time i braked in it, i locked the wheels up and about tested the seat belt pretensioners.
heh i drove the shortest route around the block and parked up... she can keep her modern car full of wires and tech. ill stick with something i can fix with a hammer and a few spanners.

Those of you that didn't know, on the way home from Panda Camp 2013 Talon underwent a little transformation.

This video will show some of the things that he went through...(make sure you watch the video):
Note that the video messed up. its only 10 minuets long.. not half an hour!

and this is what i have been busy fixing: (with thanks to @purple haze)

i am not too sure, i would like to paint them in a way where if they get scratched, the water wont get under the paint and lift it... quickly. (as i know it cant be helped)

what would you guys suggest? i was thinking of getting them powder coated... given i need the wheels and light grills powder coated too.

I think I would use epoxy mastic, the same stuff I used on the front suspension of my Mk1. The problem with powder coating is it is easily chipped in my experience and once it has happened you can't properly touch it up so you end up with water behind it and you are back to sqaure one.

The epoxy mastic is a two pack paint so it is very tough once hardened, much better than Hammerite or anything like that. Looks best sprayed but you could brush it on, and if you do chip or scratch it you can easily touch it up. I would still get the bullbar blasted beforehand as the cleaner the surface the better it will be though.

Looking good John (y)

That n/s rear light needs a thump btw. ;)

Oh yeah and work out a price for the dash will you? Cost of parts, how long it will take you & what you want per hour. Pm me some info & we'll try and line some work up for you (y)
