Panda (Classic) John Dragon Man's 4x4 Sisley

Introduction

Hello!

Well, I have been waiting a long time to do this!

Introducing (Drum roll please!).....

Edit: about half way through the time it took me to get the car on the road it found the name Talon. So everyone Meet:

Great Looking car.. As i am sure you all agree!

It has its Good points:

No Horrid noises in any gear and the 4x4 system works and sounds brilliant! Its a Sisley! And it came with some nice extras such as the light grill covers.

and also nice low mileage.

And it has its bad points... Lots of bad points:

Mid body rust, This is the worst on the drivers side (in the UK) front wing:

The Doors are Rusty.. Ok, i did expect this as it seems to be a common thing on most Fiats over 10-15 years old:

And the other Door, Not as bad.. I may be able to save this side!

"Phantom Electronics" the electronics do what they want to do, when they want to do it. No Switches necessary!

Also the Fuse box now lives here :( That means that a flap has been cut in the pocket :(

The Exhaust is very broken, in multiple parts. even the down pipe!

Lastly and by far the worst, Under body rust. Now its not as bad as it could be. The rear sills on both sides have a small 1 - 2 inch hole in them. No biggy.
I have still yet to remove all the plastic wheel arch liners and have a proper look.
Here's a picture from the front drivers side wheel arch, its only a skin so a easy repair:

A bit of work needs doing to the brakes, pads i think. The fluid needs changing and the drivers side front brake pipe is corroded so i will replace that.

Also the engine needs a good cleaning up, a full on service replacing the water pump, cam belt, tensioner pulley, distributor cap and rotor arm, filters, oil, radiator, coolant and starter motor.

I also need a few things like a locking filler cap, the little clips that hold the air box together, a new boot gas strut and a non damaged back bumper.

Its the car I have always wanted right from when I was a young lad. So you can imagine how I was when I won it on eBay for a grand total of £547. Getting it from Wales To my home town of Derby Cost me £135.

With some love, care and late nights I reckon I can turn it into a cracking motor!

Oh and stay tuned as I will be keeping a Video Log of what I will be doing to the car on Youtube!

This is the video i took just as the car transporter left from delivering it:

Edit: this is how Talon looks now:

:eek::cool::cool::cool::yum:

Since then Talon has gained more lights, and now has some blue rust free Seat Marbella doors. I had also converted him to Fuel injection, however the parts i used were old and worn so now it is back on Carburettor.

This thread has its ups and downs but through the years Talon and myself have pulled through.

When you are done reading this thread, be sure to check out the little red scrap yard rescued Seat Marbella thread and also Project Fallout!

Peace all and enjoy the thread, videos and pictures!
ahh guess i dont need this any more. the threads have all stripped out of the radiator side of it so it looks like yet another new radiator i am going to have to buy. well there goes the bull bar painting fund.
another £70 down the drain.

hell if anyone needs a brand new less than a year old 4x4 radiator core then i have one.

You may be able to repair it with something like 'Plastic padding chemical metal'.

well my plan was to re-tap it to the next size up.. but again the next size up is a huge size.

sadly its not a standard pipe fitting thread, the threads are quite course on it so it makes it really hard to find anything that will fit it in terms of next size up.

if.. IF i could find another original fitting i would just tigerseal it in. but they are nonexistent :/

Would an air line fitting like this be about the right size?

i have been using air fittings to try and fix it :(

the original one has been snapped off in the picture i took i held it together with blutack.
it has a big split going half way up one side.

to be fair, some time stored off the road would be ok about now. everyone has the idea that my car is the run around car.. i dont like it being seen as that.. not when we have two 13 plate small cars parked on the same drive.

i really need one :/ been trying to find a replacement for a while now, to no luck. its some odd size so plumbers fittings will not fit it.

anyone able to assist me on this epic search?

I can't see obviously from the pictures what's broken on it but, what's it made out of ? Could it be brazed. Failing that its a fairly simple part to turn on a lathe

thanks, but if you look, none of them are the same thread or has long threads like the original. i was thinking i may be able to fix the old one with a bit of brake pipe.

drill the old one out till the pipe fits through it, flare both the ends of the pipe so it wont pull out, tigerseal it in along with the brake pipe. think that would work.

Almost the same failure on the fiat regata radiator I've repaired with copper pipe{fuel line} taken from some old carb, and glued it into the hole in the plastic element with thread. Almost the same method You want to use John. Mine repair worked for three years, after that I do not know, I ve sold the car:)

Hey Dragon Man, I was near my local Fiat/Alfa breakers yesterday so I popped in to see if he had anything. He didn't have anything off hand but he'll keep an eye out while he's going through his drawers etc :D

I have though in the past had lots of success repairing plastic parts with a soldering iron! You basically just hold the part together and carefully use the heat of the soldering iron to fuse the parts together.
Sometimes if it was thin plastic I had to melt some extra plastic onto the part to make it stronger. If it works for you, you could always add some epoxy to it after for extra strength (y)

John
Sorry to tease you, but I have a spare, only thing is the thread is very fine, good news is I also have a radiator it fits to.(4x4 I believe)
I am going to check it at work tomorrow to see what thread it is, but it is parallel and not a tapered pipe thread.
