Technical Investigating poor running

This will run through the investigation of a Warm Weather running issue on a 63 plate Panda TA

Vehicle runs fine all Winter,

Develops a Misfire after @an hour of driving in Hot Weather

Been seeing this cycle for 6 years..!


Has Some basic service items attended to, made no difference,

No obvious errors on Examiner, or MES

Soot visible at the Exhaust joint

This will be an early point to attack, the Exhaust tone does seem to change from Cold to Hot (Undertray makes this awkward to check on a daily basis..)

The soot would seem you have an exhaust leak which may be causing pressure issues with the exhaust?

Indeed, I suspect it IS a contributing factor..

But Not the whole story..

Been doing this since 2020, fine all Winter, poor every Summer

I believe so.. And it has an undertray

are you draining the oil ?.. . I can't see if you've got the sump plug installed or not. (pic not clear enough)

If it is, it's leaking

My 2018 TwinAir Panda looks excactely the same, I don't worrie about that little black soot..!!
(Advise: Use some WD40 or similar on the salt attacked aluminum engine part(s) )

Yes.

My TwinAir also leaks at this point. Has been doing it since I bought it and receipts from the previous owners garage made note of it. I have tightened the joint as much as possible to the point where you cannot feel any exhaust issuing from it when ticking over.

It has never affected the running of the car, just a bit of soot always present....
