General High mileage Pandas (at least 100K miles on the clock)

On Journey to southampton today and Mileage display went to - - - - - was on 248548 Miles which is 400000 KM exactly and thats the max Please Fiat how can this be reset to continue as MOT will be unregistered for mileage

Home mechanic level software
( Mes : AlfaOBD etc) traditionally lets you ADD recorded distance

NEW cars can have 'delivery miles' wiped..
But probably expensive : Pointless for you :)

Anyway , Greate Achievement !!

Well done (y)

100HP has 133,000 and going fine with normal wear parts as required.
1.3 Multijet was bought with 125K and a broken cam chain. I’ve rebuilt the engine as it was seriously clogged with soot. Even oil control piston rings were a mess though no significant wear on the bores or bearing shells. Moral - don’t treat your MJ too gently. It needs to be worked.
By the way MJ absolutely MUST have the correct clutch. Mine had the wrong type and centre of friction plate was falling apart. Gearbox input seal is likely to be hardened but input bearing is big and strong

My 2008 1.2 60hp marks today 160000km or 100000miles! 2 pairs of tires, brake pads chaged once, filters and oil\plugs and one cambelt change with water pump. Appart from that stock! even shocks arre the original ones! Looks new appart from some wear on the driver seat seat! incredible car for the money i paid for it when new. Wish we had more cars like this nowadays.

Panda 169.

I'm considering replacing the engine. I've located a 77000 mile engine from another car. I don't think it's worth it. I'd dismissed just doing the head as thought it would be just as costly.

Unless youve 'cooked it'

There is a fair chance the engine just needs a £20 gasket.. then attend to whatever let the coolant level drop ;)

See my GUIDES for an idea of what is involved

A bit more than that, head bolts, gaskets, oil, filter, locking tools, probably timing belt, coolant

Still less than £100 all done from the top

And much easier than finding the correct, engine, with the correct timing and sensors, and lifting the whole lot out

No idea on the 1.1 but there were at least 4 different engines fitted to the 1.2

It still runs. Will this guarantee no skim required? If so I'll have a bash.
Nope no guarantee

95% of the time it's not needed

The normal problem is a slight step in the block between 1 and 2 cylinders

You have to inspect carefully between the cylinder both on the block and head where the fire ring sits

These gaskets that are coated and fire ringed are quite tolerant of small imperfections

This one still gets use 3 or more times a day and a year later

Back in the day.. I got quite well practiced

We owned at the same time 3 x 1108cc FIRE cinq sporting , punto 55 and that 2004 panda

Over time..all 3 needed a HG

CINQ ok.. but a bit complex..extra kit in the way

Punto..easy as.. lots of room and less 'tech'

These both worked fine 3+ years on they were sold as good runners

Panda.. blew once.. 6 weeks later it went again.. December.. it was the Heater Matrix losing the coolant 'unseen'

Obviously having been apart twice I did more than my Stanley blade clean and a straight edge test

I actually put it on a machine and measured deviations... VERY good :)
I bought my 1st ever set of Headbolts and another £10 gasket from AAP in Oldham..via ebay

I leave the manifolds alone.. so no extra gaskets..
Cleaning the Gunk out of the cam.covers baffles is enlightening :yuk:

Its not a Complicated job

I believe ALL 1108's are primitive SAFE engines.. so no locking tools

Yours is the END OF LINE.. so it MIGHT be fussier.. but I doubt it

But time consuming..and you will probably need some RIBE sockets

Allow a full day ..or several evenings

But if you have time.. then worth trying to save it :)

173179. 53 reg yellow Panda Dynamic 1.2. Failed MOT corrosion. Going to scrapyard tomorrow.
I bought the car 10 years ago for £1650 with 71k on the clock. Apart from service items it has had a sump, clutch and 2 window regulators.

Girlfriends 100hp got this far then some nob hit her up the back at a junction and it's been written off :(

The car is pretty tired now, but it still had some life left in it. Was hoping to get to 200,000miles
Still has the original exhaust other than the Flexi that I replaced 2 years ago.

Bought it 9 years ago at about 75k miles and has had mostly just service work done and some welding when I replaced half the sill. Been a really good car overall
