Hello all,

I have an issue with my 2009 panda where it suddenly loses power and jolts/judders at higher revs - anytime I try to accelerate quickly / go steeply uphill / have more weight in the car it is likely to happen as the revs get higher. (I can't say what sort of range as the car doesn't have a rev counter :-/ )

It is quite sudden and will sort itself out once the revs drop, either by slowing down or shifting up a gear (neither of which is a very good solution if trying to accelerate or go uphill, and frankly terrifying if on a DC or motorway!) and quite often I find myself gradually decelerating and completely unable to pick any speed back up.

When it happens the engine warning light will come on solidly just for a couple of seconds, though in addition to this it has recently begun to constantly flash.

I have taken it to three garages now, none of whom have been able to give me a definitive diagnosis. The most recent mechanic who looked at it finally got a fault code reading for the crank shaft sensor, but he was very unsure if replacing the sensor would make any difference.

Having read a few posts from others here there seems to be a few people having similar issues who have mentioned a wiring loom. I know embarrassingly little about cars, so that is meaningless to me!

Could anyone suggest what might be causing my problem and if so, how do I best go about fixing it? Will replacing the crank shaft sensor help, or is it the wiring loom that needs fiddling with, or something else entirely?

Thank you all in advance for any and all advice!

We need to know the actual fault P0???

However some of the symptoms are of a crank sensor, such as higher revs

Plus a code for the sensor

With the limited information it's going to be hard to 100% sure

Wiring shouldn't be an issue effects cars in hot countries climbing mountains and the like, where the exhaust temperature can melt the wires

Ah damn, the mechanic didn't mention what the specific code was, just that it was for the crank shaft...
Interesting that you mention temperature - the issue began around the same time as a coolant leak causing the engine to overheat (dial in the red) on several occasions. Do you think there could be a link there?

Hi, spoke to the mechanic again and got the code. P1300 - Phonic wheel leaning, To be performed, Present. He said they tried disconnecting one sensor and the car still ran without it, which suggested that the other sensor wasn't actually faulty... There was a second code U1602 however that apparently resolved on its own!
