ECU

Take the ECU out. It should be easy and the car can not be driven. It is easy and safe.
Cheers

Re: ECU

I imagine the insurance company will want the locks and ECU changed now, as the keys have been stolen and there is no way of logging the stolen key out of the system without the red key. There are cheaper ECUs available for the 1.4 engine than getting Fiat ones.

I'm sure a search of the site will throw up the contact details.

You could also just change the door locks (and petrol cap lock) but you might have to get the lockset from the scrappy as Fiat will probably tell you that they can't supply keys without ECUs. You would then have a key for the door and a different one for the ignition, but with a replacement ECU from one of the alternative suppliers it will probably only be half the price.

Re: ECU

can he not buy a custom ecu (sports) and then just change the locks all round. could change to wat ever u want really wouldnt matter.

inface i would us it as an excuss to smooth the handles and locks off and then get a popper kit. jump in 1 key in igniton and ur off

Car Audio Services say:

Reasons for needing this service are
1.Lost all keys for car.

Yet they ask for:

What we need to do this is the Fiat ECU(found in the engine compartment),Fiat codeblock(found above the fuse board) and 1 key that turns the ignition.

If youve lost all ya keys then how ya gonna supply ONE FOR THE IGNITION

I have not phoned my insurance company yet, you recon I have to tell them?

Thanks loads Smee for the ebay, I will definately look in to that.

The ebay link I gave in their web site it says that if you provide the boot lock they can make a skeletan key or have a skeletan key made (not sure what that means :S) then they don't need any keys at all.

Looks like I will have to give these guys a go - anyone any tips or recommendations before I do?

thats the 2nd phone call i would have made, the first to the police.
they would have been able to give advice or if your fully comp they will replace the locks & keys.

Yeah suppose that is true I am on 3rd party fire and theft though but yeah I will give them a ring tomorrow.

The thing is I don't think it would be worth it to claim on my insurance in terms of premiums and what my excess is.

Really appreciate any other suggestions you bravo experts have on this problem.

at the end of the day it was theft & you should be covered. you might be able to claim on the house insurance, it might be worth giving them a ring.i know mine covers the house keys, not sure about car keys though.

i have the same

I just had the same problem as you this week, and I'm running in the same problems as you did. SO if you have any tips or any experiences you've had so far, please let me know. So far FIAT tells me to change my computer unit for a lot of money. Hope there's something cheaper

Re: i have the same

Hey TRent, yeah I will let you know what solution I come up with either way cos there has to be a easier and cheaper way than the Fiat £800 they are wanting to do it!

Re: i have the same

try a fiat speciallst they may be cheeper, or a scrap yard.

re

I'd say phoen insurance, and see if they will cover costs, as someone said it is theft.

otherwise if your not too attached to car remove anythgin of value and tow it to a ar park somewhere, and report it stolen, then they will def cover cost of you getting it back?

Re: re

codeman can make a skeleton key from the bootlock for £25 if i remember right.
you need to check the ecu is on their list
