What is this noise? Is my Bravo dying?

I have a 57 plate Bravo 1.4T (150bhp). It's done about 51k miles.

Recently I've been hearing A Noise.

It only seems to happen after I've been going fairly fast. Even then it only happens in 5th and 6th gears, whatever the revs. It sounds like somebody's blowing across a bottle/panpipes whenever I push the accelerator.

I can drive for 45 minutes and if I don't go very fast I don't hear the noise. If I drive for even 15 minutes but drive faster, then the noise starts every time I press the accelerator. Once it starts I'm stuck with it until I stop.

I would really appreciate any insight anyone can offer! Should I be worried or not? Should I get rid whilst it's still more-or-less intermittent?

If the sound appears as you go faster than a certain speed and disappears if you slow down again, the first thing I would get checked would be your exhaust.

Does the pitch change. Like a police siren might do? Or sound like a whistle at all? If so it could be an aging turbo. Got a vectra turbo sounds like that, but has been that way over 2 years and never changed.
