You don't have to, you're covered by your card
Their branches at certain times have staff on that know little about what they are selling. Frequently the customers know even less or assume the seller knows what he is talking about which is when trouble can happen. I'd be fairly certain a lot of people reading this thread were shaking their heads and smiling ruefully.
It pays to talk whether that's the local factor, your local garage or on here.
Good luck with the wheels
They may have known you were coming , big organisations have PR teams that earwig the web for a mention of their name. The refund could have been decided at the board meeting last night in the Cayman Islands
No 3 son bought a head unit for his SEAT in there. The guy on that day asked what car and year and instantly said you will need this and this and this and was bang on 100% correct
Thank you for taking the time to communicate to us why our products have not met your expectations. Please accept my sincerest apology for any trouble or inconvenience this has caused you.
I have reviewed your concern and would like to advise you that this has been discussed in depth with the Quality Team. It has been confirmed that the wheels are suitable for your vehicle, and the fitting kit provided to you was also correct.
We also have been able to confirm that spacers are not required for the vehicle. As these spacers were purchased based upon advice given by the store, we are more than happy to offer you a refund of £19.98 for them. I do apologise for the recommendations provided by the store on this occasion and can assure you that all feedback has been logged internally.
This matter has been investigated with Adam at the Fareham store, who has inspected the alloy wheels. After inspection, it has been noted that the original factory weights are still present on the wheels, therefore indicating that balancing has not taken place.
I have spoken to Priory Garage, who have stated that when the alloy wheels were fitted by The Wheel Specialist, the original bolts which were taken off the vehicle were used to secure the alloy wheels following the fitment completion. As a spacer was used, we do believe it was the garages responsibility to advise that the vehicle would require longer bolts before the vehicle could be driven; as if the bolts were too short, the vehicle could have been potentially dangerous to drive.
I do understand that the alloy wheels were fitted externally to Halfords, however, we do believe this was your choice to do so as the customer. Our Halfords Autocentres do offer an alloy wheel fitting service at a total cost of approximately £40.00; any further issues that you may have occurred would have been referred to them and rectified internally.
To resolve this matter, following your refund for the alloy wheels, we would like to offer you a refund for the spacers you have purchased at a cost of £19.98. We would require you to return to store for this to be processed.
Regrettably, without being given the opportunity to rectify this matter using our own resources, we do not feel that Halfords can be held responsible for the out of pocket expenses incurred following the fitment of your alloy wheels.
I am really sorry that you have experienced these issues with the wheels purchased from us, however, based on the information I have to hand and from investigations taken place, I can only advise that if you do remain unhappy with my response, it is your prerogative to seek independent advice.
Please note that your unique reference number is ******** should you wish to discuss this with me directly. You may contact me by telephone on 0845 057 9000; quoting your reference number.
Please be assured this matter has received my full attention and please accept my apologies once again.
