The guy himself asked for a picture to go in the paper ffs do you not think he realised what a stupid waste of a great life he ended up as?

Anyway can't be arsed to argue if people wanna put down a dead man even more then go for it (n) :(

i dont think hellcat meant that as a dig to george, more of a way to discourage youngsters from following his choices

That's why I think football is all wrong today, there are too many scandals and bad role models. They really need to sort things out and get back to the game being the focus.

Mind you I was one of the only people I know who went to a school that didn't allow football, only rugby.

What do you expect when you give a 17 year old £50000 a week!

George Best was also one of those Poggy!

Beleive it or not football was not played at George's school and he only played at weekends.

Put George down or put him on a pedastal. George meant a lot to some and nothing to others. To many a young lad he was their dream. A footballer with good, looks, money, women and an amazing talent. Football may mean more to others. To myself football bring me happiness. I love to watch a genius play (Cantona was also one of those). OK they may do nothing for you personally but for me and many others it leaves sheer amazement. Football too is like a drug addiction for me. I can watch a game and get involved and forget the rest of the world for 90 minutes and smile

I wonder what the reception will be like when West Ham play Man U on sunday. It's televised too.
iirc Man U fans were rather rude when we had a minutes silence for Bobby Moore

I liked George Best, he was a really nice guy from what I saw of him and always up for a laugh and that means a lot :)

remember, george was the first superstar.he had nobody to wrap him up in cotton wool like todays footballers.he had all this money, great looks, and was a magnet for hanger ons and poor stories.he gave loads of money away, but also drank alot away too.if you know anyone who is dependent on drink or drugs[i do],then it is hard to read on here how bad people think he was.he cried for help in his own way,but he didn't get the addiction sorted.perhaps he was incurable.don't know.ive lost 2 great friends to drugs.it savaged there bodies and there kin.they cried for help, but it was too late.george has now left his body for donarship.

There are more important thing in life than footballers. I dont see a thread dedicated to the last surviving witness of the Christmas Day truce during the first world war who died yesterday. He played in a game of football which was more poinient than every game George Best played in during his whole career put together.

I agree.

Maybe I worded it wrong, I think the clubs and media put too much pressure on young footballers to be something more than footballers. Most of them don't have the life experience to cope with it and I am sure 90% would still play for 10% of the salaries they are being given today because they love the game. I think it all started when football became big on TV and football in general became the "big" business it is today.

As for George he started at 17 and retired at 26 and I suspect he would never have had a problem with the drink if it hadn't been for the way he was pushed into the limelight. Got to feel sorry for him.

Got to agree with you there, i think the majority of footballers are overpaid and underworked and certainly lack a lot of the discipline that other professional sports stars possess. for instance, F1 drivers, pro-cyclists, motorcyclists etc.

i think the whole problem with george's life, and that of other footballers can be summed up with the sentence "...started at 17 and retired at 26..."

'nuff said.

I don't follow football, i don't know much about Best other than what has happened lately (got a new liver, and destroyed it). End of the day, he's died - leaving his family behind. He was a son, a father, an uncle, (a husband?) and thats sad.

RIP, thoughts with his family.

One Day in the dark streets of Belfast,
A young man was born too soon,
For had he been born today, boys,
This game would know no gloom,
For he stood only five feet eight inches,
He weighed only eight stone,
By day he played with his friends therer,
By night he played on his own.

Then Early one morning a letter,
Arrived in the post at his home,
'Will your son please board the ferry,
From Ireland to England alone',
So a young lad arrived at Old Trafford,
Prepared to give his all,
But England's a long way from Belfast,
And the Emerald Isle did call.

It took all of Matt Busby's persuasion,
To make him come back for the test,
For he knew that he'd found a genius,
Who was so far ahead of the rest,
He could run at the speed of a greyhound,
Turn on a sixpence and shoot,
Dribble his way through a minefield,
While still only wearing one boot.

Hos playing brought crowds in their thousands,
His antics attack from the press,
But they still had to bow down in tribute,
And acknowledge true genius...
GEORGE BEST

this threads just sick it was meant to be as a good thing when started, he was still a fooking person with family and everything. yeah he got a new liver tht sum1 else could of had whats saying that the other person wouldnt of done this. i only read first page at work but come on have some heart he issued a picture of him dying so it put other people off. he has donated all his organs aswell which shows he appreciated that extra break he had and is willing to give it to someone else.he had another go at life and didnt make it no need to point and say told you so. im not going to look at this thread again coz ppl dont give a **** about another persons life. PM me if u want to say anything. end of the day by making football what it is hes probs encourages alot of kids to play it in rough estates rather than twocking cars etc. hellcat yeah u lost a close friend so have lots of people today RANT OVER - DELETE THIS IF YOU WANT RIP george best thanks for your help to others :worship:
ps - some other ppl think this but wont post because the will get bad repped and slated

I stand by my posts. George Best is a tragic loss to football, but he was also a tragic human being. George himself stated that the liver he received would have been better going to someone else. I am a Man United fan and from Northern Ireland, I grew up with my Da banging on about George Best and how great he was. It's possible to both appreciate someones talent and what they brought to the world and also think that they shouldn't have lived the way they did...

something to consider.when george needed a liver, donar registrations went up ten fold.and it still is up.so some good came out of it.

i think this thread should be cleaned uo bcoz the is nothing stopping his family coming and reading it. the same reason i cant swear on other threads case sum1 takes offence come on mods this bloke is dead surely your not gonna let him be slagged off
