Hello,

Went out to car and would not open with fob...battery flat, so opened with key.

Checked fuel - cap (locked with key) had been undone, and cable cut (not sure why they needed to do that).

Can anyone tell me how they managed to do this, and why the battery was flat? (To disable the alarm?)

Will they have damaged the car in any way - cutting cables etc.

Thanks...

What cable on the cap?

That being said most locking fuel caps can be removed with brute force a screw driver or something around the edge and just prey them off they offer minimal security an experienced person could probably remove them under a minute

Allthrough they usually just stab a screw driver into the tank from underneath these days quicker and fuel can be drained by gravity then no need to pump or Syphon so less suspicious looking to anybody walking around

The standard filler cap has a retaining cord and a loop on the bottom so you can hang the cap on the filler door while filling the tank.

I suggest you look under the fuel tank to check it has not been punctured to drain the fuel. Consider yourself lucky if they "simply" levered off the filler cap as repairs should be cheap.
