Styling Footwell neons to work with Interior Light

hmmm defo interested (y) can you patch into the cables anywhere else rather than at the light? I mean those cables need to connect somewhere dont they

T

Yes you could, if you where going to use a switch, connect the red and black wire instead of the red and green/yellow and then have a switch on it if you like...

But what if, for example, I wanted to have both?

Say, I wanted to have them come on/off with the interior light. But also, have the ability to disable that? So I could stop the footwell lights from coming on with the opening doors. Would the switch just go inline with the green/yellow wire?

sorry just seen the word "neons" and thought id have my input haha

Firstly...

*LED strips are deffo better than neon tubes...the tubes just crack easily iv had 6 and they all broke and the LED's are much brighter :)

*To connect them they are just positive and negative...if you want to come on with doors open connect wiring to the courtsey light wires running them throught the A pillar

*Alternitivly i have mine on seperate toggle switches mounted flush in the centre console (behind cup holders) they look neat and mean i can turn them on and off when i wish...outside neons, LED doorsills, Footwells

*Use an inline fuse for safety although the cig lighter is fused with a 20amp fuse already as stock

front and rear footwell neons are best mate :)

heres mine:

:D

Looking good! So, I want to get these bad boys ordered so i can get onto it. How long should these LED strips be for the footwell? I've heard 8cm knocking around. But that doesn't seem that long

i believe i used 48cm for front footwells, 36cm for rears and 120cm for undercar

just measure it and get as many as you can in there the more the better only have a couple and wont be bright :)

I measured and 24cm would fit across the gaps once, but I could easily double them up!

I've got a couple of questions about the wiring, but I'm need to draw a diagram first!

I've attached the wiring diagram for one set of the LED strips. (left) Where abouts does the second get wired into? Is it like the second diagram? (right)

When you basically split the wire from the courtesy light into two for the two different strips? Also, if I wanted to put an additional switch in, would it go on the yellow/green wire? Basically, so I can decide if i want the footwell lights to come on with the interior light or not?

second diagram mate, join both positives to the courtsey light positive and both negatives to coutrsey light negative mate

the seperate switch goes on the positive red wire mate...not the earth

so does an inline fuse if you wish to use one :)

Right...

the shopping list:

LEDs

Red Wire

Black Wire

That looking alright? Just stuck on the fuse now!
use normal house hold wireing with 2 wires in it saves the two seperate wires :p and inline fuse from halfords for a couple of quid 3amps too :)

I ain't got any "house hold" wiring though! :S So would that stuff be alright?

Also, what kind of fuse am I looking for? I search for a "3amp inline fuse" and then get massively confused as to what i need

small wire will work.. but i used house hold wire to be exta safe haha! (unlike me i know!) but.. its a inline fuse your looking for... you have to buy the fuse seperate the kida of fuses you get on a sub wire it has a 20amp fuse in them but you take that out and replace it with a 3 amp fuse :)

i used 5 amp wire for mine, twin corded speaker wire does the trick aswel

inline fuse holder is what you want can be bouight from maplins, halfords any motoring shop mate...inline fuse holder to hold a blade fuse

measure the current drawn with a multimetre, or just use a 3amp fuse and if it blows use a bigger one:p
