Technical Fixing Skyroof / Sky roof / Sunroof [reset]

mine doesn't work. stopped a few months ago.

It keeps blowing the fuse for the blind (i think), when I change the fuse the blind goes forward then back then the fuse blows again.

The roof mechanism moves freely with the winder.

any ideas?

I have read all the contents of this thread, tried the reset (unsuccessfully) and now I will attempt to give it a good clean..

To cut a long story short, I live in Switzerland and bought my 2002 Abarth selespeed from a frenchman who obviously didn't look after it well. ( I Bought it for about 1,800 quid).

I doubt the skyroof has been cleaned ...ever!! Now, because my manual is in every language except english, I was wondering if someone could give me some idiot proof instructions or a guide to removing the top and manually winding back the sky roof.

Many thanks

I had an interesting problem yesterday. As many will know, if operating at the time, the skyroof locks out when anyone tries to leave the vehicle (never been quite sure if this is a safety feature or because the body computer can't multitask very well :chin:)

Anyway, on a visit to the local hospital, I parked and then asked the Stilo to shut the roof. Unfortunately my passenger then exits the vehicle at this point and the skyroof locks out . What I normally do when this happens is to use the remote to shut the roof from outside the car (good fun if anyone is watching ) but is slightly time consuming when in a hurry. So instead, I quickly turned on the ignition and shut it from the roof switch. All seemed OK

On returning about an hour or so later I was a bit bemused that the skyroof wouldn't function at all - not even the blind. So I tried the reset sequence but it didn't make a bit of difference :(

Getting a little more desperate, I then checked all 3 fuses but everyone was good. Now I like to think I keep my skyroof well maintained and was fairly sure nothing had broken mechanically but before getting stuck in decided to play the waiting game.

Sure enough, tried it again this morning and it reset perfectly :spin:

One to remember (y)

Ok I made some progress since my last post (#95)

I removed the top console and the original problem was the wire that was connected to the dial was not in place.

I connected it back up and now the sky window seems like all the working parts are ok but there is still a big problem....

It opens the front and the back slat a little. The right side of the sky window seems like it is ok but the left gets stuck and it make a grinding noise. When 1 click open all the sky window is crooked, like it opened more on the right than the left.

So my next move is to remove the glass panels and check the runners and the moving parts. I suspect there is a blockage on the left runner. My question is, for someone like me who is a teccy as a teapot, does anyone have a guide to removing the glass and cleaning the moving parts and the runners?

Thanks

Had a similar problem once when I had the Fiat dealer replace the skyroof seal I got someone to turn the opening knob whilst I tried levering the rear glass panel up from outside and then tried pushing them up from the inside.
So did your sky-roof survive that treatment then

....because I'm not sure I'd recommend anyone to try it.

I was only using my hands and no tools, but yes it did allow the sky window to open. This seemed to sort out the problem but over the next few weeks the glass panels started to catch on one and other when I opened the sky window but not when I closed it.

It turned out that the garage had put it back on wrong but in the meantime they had closed. So I took the problem to the nearest dealer and told them what the problem was and, most importantly, who had caused it. So they fixed it under warranty. You can imagine my surprise when I went to collect the vehicle to discover they had fitted a brand new complaete sky window. I think that the clean curtain impressed me the most, 'cos it was in need of a good clean before they fitted the new one:yum:.

Sounds like you were very lucky (y)

We hear some real horror stories on here. One was whacking the first panel closed with the hand (without bothering to use remote or rotary control) :shakehead:

Result: No more skyroof :cry::cry::cry:

Hi guys
New user here! Abarth owner. I just got my abarth, it has some problems. The one that fits this thread is the following:

The curtain/sun blind. I used the search but haven't found anything similar.

The curtain/sun blind works fine. The problem is: as she goes back, it gets folded up because it doesn't appear to go inside the roof. Its there some kind of spring back there that pushes the curtain inside the roof? Anyone had this problem? thanks

isn't the curtain supposed to be hidden when open? Mine folds into a mess in plain sight...

It should fold back neatly and be out of sight.

Rather strangely, if you open the sky-window then the blind closes by one slat.

It's a very common issue, caused by poor maintenance of the runners, but unfortunately I don't think the solution is cheap or easy (other than giving it a clean if it's not already broken).

It's come up before so you might want to Search again.

yes I found 3 or 4 topics on the same but no solution :)

basically, she works well. She goes front and back without an itch. It just folds in plain sight. I think its supposed to go neatly inside the opening where she is being pulled from.

Other forums say its the spring that lost tension. And so the spring doesn't pull the curtain at the same time as the motor pulls it.

thanks anyway :) I will be posting more question regarding my abarth. Cheers
